Unfortunately it’s true.

Research shows the 3 main reasons women are less likely to receive bystander CPR outside the home are:
1. Fear of inappropriate touching
2. Fear of causing injury because women are ‘physically weak or fragile’
3. Poor awareness of a woman being in cardiac arrest.

If you see a woman, or even a man, in Cardiac Arrest, unfortunately you don’t have time to weigh up the pros and cons of helping.
The same scenario applies for all.
𝙴𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚢 𝚂𝚎𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚍 𝙲𝚘𝚞𝚗𝚝𝚜.
The longer a casualty goes without CPR, the higher the possibility of death.

My tips.
✳︎ know the signs of Cardiac Arrest
✳︎ know how to perform ‘𝚎𝚏𝚏𝚎𝚌𝚝𝚒𝚟𝚎' CPR
✳︎ help the person no matter their s*x

You never know who or when someone may need you to save their life.

Recently, I’ve heard comments ‘𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦’ in relation to the price of a CPR Course.

I wasn’t going to comment, however, I think it’s important we consider the following before we pass judgment on pricing.

As someone who survived a Cardiac Arrest due to receiving ‘effective’ CPR, I seriously think we need to reframe the way we look at CPR.

Attending a course provides you with important knowledge, skills and insight into why performing ‘effective’ CPR compared to any CPR is so important to saving a persons life. When attending my courses I am very meticulous on CPR technique (rate & depth) due to my experience which in my opinion is priceless.

Now, let’s compare pricing between a life saving CPR Course and a daily coffee.
Average price of a coffee $5.50
Average cost of a CPR Course $65
Only 𝟭𝟮 coffees to complete a course.

If a loved one suddenly required CPR, would you prefer to know how to perform ‘effective’ CPR or would you be happy to ‘wing it’ and perform any CPR?

The 2023/24 VACAR Report shows that 13% of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrests in Victoria occurred within a public location.

That’s 980 people.

If you saw a stranger, work colleague, friend or family member collapse in a public location would you
A) step in and help
B) know what to do

The only way to increase a severely low survival rate of 10% is through bystander intervention and knowing what steps you need to take.

Don’t let your workplace be caught out like this.

I wouldn’t want to be anyone in this image.
The casualty relying on his co-workers to save his life.
The co-workers not knowing what to do followed by on-going trauma due to their colleague dying because they lacked the knowledge and skills of what immediate action needed to be taken to save his life.

Keep your workplace safe. The life of your co-workers, customers and yourself are worth it.

Personally, I believe ALL staff should know how to perform CPR and depending on the size of the business, 2 or more people should have their First Aid qualification.

Business owners, I ask you to be the positive change in the workforce and educate ALL staff with the knowledge and skills on performing ‘effective’ CPR.

With 78% of Out-of-Hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrests in Victoria occurring within the home it’s important now more than ever to ask yourself
‘𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 / 𝗗𝗼 𝗜 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁?

Only 𝟰𝟮𝟮 (𝟱.𝟲%) of the 7,545 people survived their Cardiac Arrest. We need to stop being 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 and start being 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲. And we need to change the mentality of ‘that won’t happen to us’.
It can, and it does!

Knowledge is power and in cases of Cardiac Arrest, 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴!
