As the year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect with genuine gratitude on what has been another meaningful year in our clinic.

To our amazing team — thank you for the care, professionalism, and heart you bring every single day. Your dedication to our patients, your commitment to excellence, and the positive energy you create within the clinic do not go unnoticed. Long hours of gaming can strain your neck and spine, leading to Tech Neck, a musculoskeletal disorder not uncommon in gamers.

TOP 10 TIPS FOR TECH NECK PREVENTION
Too much screen time can cause tech neck people all ages.

1. SIT WITH COMFORTABLE UPRIGHT POSTURE with shoulders relaxed and feet flat on the floor.

2. BE AWARE OF TIME SPENT USING TECHNOLOGY by monitoring device use and taking regular breaks.

3. STOP BENDING YOUR NECK to look down at a phone or tablet. Hold the device at eye level.

4. USE BOTH HANDS CONCURRENTLY or alternate between left and right when typing on a smartphone.

5. DON’T WALK LOOKING DOWN at a phone. Hold your head up straight and engage with the world.

6. TAKE REGULAR MOVEMENT BREAKS to look away from your device, move your neck from side to side and stretch every 10 minutes if using mobile devices, and every 30 minutes if using computers.

7. ENSURE COMPUTERS are ergonomically set up so the monitor is at eye level and arm’s length away.

8. USE AN ADJUSTABLE ergonomic office chair so the knees are slightly lower than the hips.

9. EXERCISE REGULARLY to maintain a healthy spine and overall health and wellbeing.

With increased time spent on phones, tablets, and screens, children and young people are increasingly at risk of developing tech neck – a musculoskeletal disorder caused by poor posture and prolonged forward head tilt.

Non-ergonomic setups and bad posture habits while using devices like tablets, computers or smartphones can also contribute to this growing concern for children and adults alike.

Follow the Institute of Family Studies guidelines to limit screen time, encourage movement, and support better posture, spinal health and overall wellbeing.
