BOWEL CANCER

My brother and I are doing the Jodi Lee Foundation Trek on Sat May 17th. The Jodi Lee foundation are a bowel cancer charity in honour of Jodi Lee who was diagnosed at just 39yo with bowel cancer and sadly died just before she turned 41yo.

We have some personal experience with bowel cancer (as do many) - our grandfather had bowel cancer and we remember the stress and significance of the illness and colostomy. In addition, I have inherited a familial polyposis syndrome and we both need surveillance colonoscopies. So I have some top tips for bowel prep if anyone wants/needs?! 😅

If you are able to spare a few $ towards the cause and to boost us through our trek, that would be greatly appreciated. Neither of us are in optimal fitness, but we are pushing each other. And it’s a great experience to have together.

Thank you in advance! And happy bowel cancer screening everyone!!!

A reminder that bowel cancer is becoming an increasing problem in younger population. The screening age has recently reduced to 45yo and should be earlier if you have a strong family history. Guess who would be able to let you know your risk and give you a kit - YOUR GP 👩‍⚕️😎

PS: cute retro kiddie pics to get attention 🤣 AND couldn’t go past the RACGP Fellowship ceremony and wedding celebration pics

As promised - we (Drs Nina, Clare and Bec) walked/ jogged/ ran the talk on Sat at Christies Beach Park Run!
Beautiful morning for it and the coffee tasted even better after our efforts!
Park Run is a great initiative to get active. You don’t have to run at all - there are plenty of walkers. It’s very social and supportive.
One of the highlights was running with our former Registrar Dr Rebecca Langhans. AND there were also plenty of cute pups including SEVERAL cocker spaniels - Dr Clare’s favourite! 🥰
Missed you - unless you zoomed past so quickly we didn’t see you?! I believe we did see jogging past us!
If you’re a GP clinic, remember you can sign up for Park Run Practice (just like us!)

PARKRUN!
🏃🏃🏻‍♀️🏃‍♂️
This Sat April 5 some of team WOWS will be at Christies Beach Parkrun!
Parkrun is a wonderful way to be active - you don’t have to run, you can walk, meander, jog, sprint or move in any way you want. You can bring the whole family including the dog!

Maybe see you there?!😎

Dr Clare and Dr Nina are getting excited for flu vaccine season!
We have opened bookings for the flu vaccines!
If you are:
- over 65yo
- pregnant
- living with a chronic condition (eg, diabetes, heart disease, HIV, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma/ COPD)
- immunocompromised
- aged 6mo to 5years
You are both recommended and funded to have an influenza vaccine under the National Immunisation Program (this means you don’t pay anything out of pocket) when you visit your GP.
Influenza is a nasty virus that results in hospitalisation and deaths every year.
Be like Dr Nina and get your vaccine - you might even get a lollipop and a laugh!

Happy St Patrick’s Day to all who celebrate!
A day to celebrate Irish culture. We can learn a lot from other cultures. Here are some of the great things we can learn from Irish people:
- have a laugh
- don’t take yourself too seriously
- enjoy a dance, some music and the friends and family around you
- veggies are important, especially potatoes
- enjoy a Guinness (in moderation)
- enjoy the sun whilst it shines, and don’t get too bothered by the rain
It’s no surprise that Dr Clare celebrated the day in her new shamrock scrubs!
Slainte! (Cheers or “health” in Gaelic)

BIG welcome to Dr Sarah McArthur and Dr Megan Bentley! Our two new GP registrars completing their specialty General Practice Fellowship. They both come from a wealth of experience as doctors in the hospital system.
We were sad to say goodbye to Dr Rebecca Langhans who has had to move on to a new clinic to complete her Fellowship. We’re hoping it’s just “see you later” 👩‍⚕️🥰
Wirreanda has been a teaching practice for many years. I’m sure many of you remember when Dr Clare Keogh, Dr Nina Holmwood, Dr Matthew Crabb AND Dr Thu Dang were competing their specialist GP training over the years. Now we have a wonderful group of specialist GPs!
Please make Dr McArthur and Dr Bentley feel welcome as they complete the final stages of their specialty training to become fully fledged GPs!
