✨ Our First Social Cooking Night — What a Beautiful Start! 🍕

We hosted our very first Social Cooking Night… and it was such a success!

While the pizza was delicious (and yes, there were strong opinions about toppings 😄🍕), the real highlight of the night was the connection.

A simple game of Bingo turned into so much more than just numbers. It created conversations, laughter, friendly competition, and moments of encouragement. Participants were talking, helping each other, celebrating small wins, and genuinely enjoying being part of the group.

That’s what this is really about.
Not just cooking.
Not just games.
But building confidence, social skills, and meaningful connection in a safe and relaxed space.

We’re so proud of everyone who came along and gave it a go. 💛

Two weeks ago, our amazing participants cooked these beautiful Arepas from scratch 👏

Arepas are a traditional food from Venezuela and Colombia, made from corn flour. They’ve been part of Latin American culture for hundreds of years and are still loved every day.

In our kitchen, we love exploring different cultures through food. Trying something new builds confidence, curiosity, and joy — one recipe at a time!

There’s a very important member of our team that doesn’t wear an apron… 🐶

BonBon.

If you’ve been to one of our sessions, you already know — the welcome cuddles are just as important as the cooking.

We’ve had past participants pop in just to say hello to her. We’ve seen nervous energy melt away after one gentle pat. One of our participants who used to be scared of dogs can now cuddle her. That’s huge.

She doesn’t teach recipes.
She doesn’t give instructions.
But she teaches calm, trust, confidence… and unconditional love.

In a space where we focus on building skills, independence and connection, BonBon somehow supports it all in her own quiet way.

She really is part of the team 🤍

🌟 Welcome back to our cooking journey! 🌟

We’re so excited to welcome our participants to a brand-new year of learning, confidence-building, and delicious moments in the kitchen 🧑‍🍳💛

We’re kicking things off on a sweet note with this beautiful lemon sorbet and dessert dish, made by one of our participants who chose to start her cooking journey for the year with something fresh, fun, and a little bit special 🍋🍨

Some feedback fills our hearts right up 💛

One of our participants has been growing in confidence, patience, and independence through our kitchen mentoring sessions — so much so that their family said the skills learned here have been “more valuable than speech therapy and OT, because they’re real-life skills with a trusted mentor.”

They’re now exploring new foods, trying ingredients they never imagined, and discovering just how capable they really are.

Last week we attended the Onkaparinga Business Awards event, and although we didn’t take home the prize, we left feeling incredibly proud and deeply grateful. 💚✨

Being finalists again this year is already a huge achievement — one that reflects the heart, passion, and purpose behind everything we do at ALMA Cooking Support. Every class, every meal prepared, every moment spent building confidence in the kitchen with our participants… that’s the real reward for us. 🍳💛
