🌟 Today’s kitchen stars were two amazing siblings, just 13 and 15 years old!

When we plan our meals, we always think of three things:
🥗 Healthy – nourishing the body.
👌 Simple – so cooking feels achievable.
🌸 Pretty – because presentation matters!

Food that looks good makes us proud of what we’ve created.

For young people, that moment of seeing a colourful, well-plated dish isn’t just about the meal—it’s a boost of self-esteem. ✨
They see their effort transformed into something beautiful, and it builds confidence not only in the kitchen, but in themselves.

This weekend, Davide had the pleasure of attending a mozzarella-making workshop organized by Fleurieu Food and Wine and hosted Lot 50 Yankalilla 🧀✨

It’s a great reminder that the kitchen never ceases to amaze — even for someone who’s been cooking professionally his whole life, there’s always something new to learn, taste, and perfect.

That’s exactly the spirit we bring into our programs — whether we’re working with participants to master a favourite dish, try something completely new, or build confidence in the kitchen, every session is about curiosity, creativity, and joy through food.

Who knows… maybe mozzarella will make an appearance in a future class! 😉

🥄 Cannoli class this morning!

Today we had a great session making cannoli from scratch with one of our participants who’s interested in pursuing a career in baking.

They nailed the dough, the filling, and even the presentation! It’s always great to see skills grow in the kitchen—and even better when there’s a clear goal behind it.

Step by step, we’re building confidence and practical experience.

Did you know learning to cook can boost your confidence and your mental health?

A study from Edith Cowan University (ECU) with 650+ adults (link in comments) found that after just seven weeks of cooking classes, participants reported greater self-belief in the kitchen—and improved general & mental wellbeing.

We see that success 🌟 in our participants all the time!

At ALMA Cooking Support, we believe in making every meal count — not just for taste, but for health too!

That’s why our recipes are packed with fresh veggies, even the ones our participants might have once said “no thanks” to. Little by little, we're reintroducing these ingredients in fun, simple ways — helping build confidence, curiosity, and healthier habits in the kitchen.

Whether it’s hidden in a sauce, roasted to perfection, or tossed into a stir fry — there’s always a colourful surprise on the plate. 🌈✨

We’re proud to source all our beautiful produce from Adelaide Fresh, supporting local and keeping it fresh every week!

This week’s recipe: Pumpkin Coconut Soup with Red Curry Paste 🎃🥥🌶

As the weather cools down, our kitchen is heating up with a comforting dish that’s full of flavour and heart — our Pumpkin Coconut Soup with a touch of red curry paste.

This recipe has been part of Davide’s repertoire for years, and it’s one we keep coming back to. The smooth pumpkin, creamy coconut milk, and gentle spice from the red curry paste make it the perfect winter warmer.

But what makes this soup even more special? It’s part of our gentle mission to introduce more veggies into our participants’ diets — especially for those who usually shy away from them. The rich, balanced flavours make it an easy (and delicious) way to say yes to veggies.

And for a few of our participants this week, it was the first time they actually liked pumpkin. That’s a win in our book! 🧡
