Anxiety - Problem or Solution?

One of the things I've often seen in myself and those that I serve is how anxiety is generated through how we frame things.

Do you see everything through a problem frame or a solution frame? often anxiety sufferers will look into the future and catastrophize or at least only see problems! thus generating there anxiety.

One of the biggest shifts for me was starting to look at the disastrous future as an opportunity, often asking myself how can I grow from this? what can i learn from this? what skill can i grow from this?

After awhile of practicing this i was automatically looking for opportunity or solutions and my anxiety subsided dramatically!

When you start generating solutions rather than problems magic happens!

How was your weekend? did you get in a mindfulness practice in? research is full of evidence about the amazing effects of mindfulness on our mood, mental health and well, just our wellbeing.

We live such busy lives these days with so many distractions cutting into our time and our ability to just be.

I was watching a longevity expert today talking about sleep, and he mentioned that we live such professional lives where we have to be on all the time for our work, our family, etc, but his attitude was that he was treating his sleep as his profession, he was a professional sleeper and it was having a really profound effect on his health.

Imagine if we were professional mindful practitioners? what would be the effect on us and our peers? the world even?

Mindset Matters

Turning Happenings into Doings pt 1

One on the things that have really helped me on my journey into being a more resourceful and fulfilled human is the understanding that, and it blew my mind when i first realised this is, that most of our behaviours are unconscious, according to psychology upwards of 90% of what you do is on autopilot, sure you make decisions to do things, and its arguable that those decisions are habit and not really conscious themselves, but most of what happens after language, skills, attitudes toward things are all unconscious processes driven by our combined experience and learning of life! ...... which was a big eye opener to why i was making not so great choices in life over and over again and saying why is this happening to me 😭

The good news though i learnt is that i have 10% wriggle room to make changes toward being a better person, I was able to turn off the autopilot on the things that I was doing, turning,

Happenings into Doings!

Changing what had been largely unconscious, things happening to me into things I was doing, which made it a lot easier to make better choices.

The next step being turning Doings into Happenings, making resourceful doings a thing that just Happens!

Mindset Matters

Growth

I've just recently been on a training where i had an interesting insight, you could even call it profound for myself and helped me reflect on what had helped a lot on my self development journey, or even if you like my journey out of resourcefulness lol

This little model of change or learning is a triad of three words,

Influence
Learning
Change

Each is dependent of the others for growth, without learning there is no change, without change there is no learning and the bottom line for me if there is no influence i.e. effort, guidance, exploration, neither change nor learning occurs.

The biggest insight and reflection came for me was just thinking about the change or new learning ended up creating the it, influence at the smallest level!

Its a lesson and practice that I utilise all the time now through visualisation which is a topic for another day.

My thought for this post and what I would like to impart is that even the smallest influence will cause change or learning which can over time create great change. ..... step by step ....... just thinking about it is getting on the journey!
