In light of this week being Mental Awareness Week. I thought I would share a little about Meditation as it has helped me through many years.
Firstly let me tell you what Meditation isn’t ! It’s not about zoning out or having the most amazing, spiritual experience or even about controlling the mind.
Meditation is more about working with the mind and training it in awareness. Working with the mind can help improve your sense of being calm and in the present moment.
A lot of things in this life are out of our control, yet meditation teaches us to take charge and connect with the goodness, spaciousness and creativity of our minds natural light. To outshine the shadows of confusion and the darkness of our thoughts and emotions to find our own inner peace.
Meditation is awareness.
When we meditate, we dedicate our time and energy to settle our mind on our breath. Now most of us find that our minds never stay still, it wanders. One minute we are concentrating on our breath the next we are thinking of what chores need to be done through the day or week. Allowing the mind to express itself is the first step to meditation. When we realise our mind has wandered off from the breath, we gently but firmly invite the mind to come back to the breath. We continue to do this over and over again. Until with time and practice the mind catches on. We discover peace and stillness and becomes harder to pull us away. Meditation teaches us contentment and happiness. We find that our happiness doesn’t come from the outside world or material things but rather it comes from within us. Through meditation we create the goodness, compassion, love and joy that already exists within us.
To help with your own practice to find the love within, I would love for you to join me tomorrow and every Wednesday 10am at Avalon InLakesh
Love, light and Peace
