✅ Yes, we can now use interstate paediatricians & psychiatrists including for ADHD medication prescriptions

✅ Yes, if your child is on NDIS early childhood approach and has turned 6 years they will contact you about your child's access eligibility so be ready

❌ No, you don't always need a paediatrician to "sign off" on an autism diagnosis BUT this depends on what you're applying for AND who does the assessment

✅ Yes, you can self-refer your child to the WA Child Development Services for assessment and support (we have been on their waitlist for almost two years so good luck with that!)

❌ Paediatricians will not provide assessment and diagnosis of Specific Learning Disorders (SLDs) such as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia or Motor Dysgraphia, Developmental Language Disorder. These assessments are conducted by psychologists, speech pathologists or occupational therapists - depending on the concern / condition.

Are you looking for someone who can complete an assessment with your child? Well to make things easier, I’ve compiled a list of providers who have availability during July & August.

Did you know that 1 in 5 children are estimated to be Dyslexic? In an average classroom of 25 students, that's FIVE kids in every classroom. I have one of them and the impact of seeing his peers race ahead on their reading when he found it so effortful was heartbreaking.

Trust your gut. If you think there's something going on for your child but you're not sure what, then chat to one of the 17 providers on this list.

Many offer an initial parent-only appointment to gather information and help you to select the most appropriate assessment/s to complete.

If you haven't completed six months of targeted intervention, many will complete a provisional assessment to help you work out if there is a concern and if so, where to target the intervention.

Psychologists can assess for ADHD along with other common co-occurring conditions such as Dyslexia, Dsygraphia and Dyscalculia.

They complete comprehensive assessments and provide detailed reports with recommendations for supporting your child at home and school.

These reports can help you understand your child’s strengths and areas that may require additional support such as time management, getting started on or finishing a task or considering consequences of an action.

Reports can be helpful in requesting reasonable adjustments for the school environment and assessments.
