Koshu K'empo Karate Australia Self Defence Martial Art; Women's Self Defence Courses;
Children's Anti-bullying & Confidence Building Courses

Koshu K’empo Australia is a European style martial art that caters for all ages, shapes and sizes, fitness levels and suits male and female as well as children. Koshu K’empo is primarily a self defence martial art that covers all areas of ‘street defence’ including traditional and non-traditional martial arts, high standards of techniques, sport karate and effective locks, throws and falls. Koshu K’empo teaches mind and body disciplines, self-respect, good posture, co-ordination and most importantly confidence and self-esteem. Grandmaster Dr. Jon K Puxty started his classes over 40 years ago. After training with over 60 styles and gaining recognition with his colleagues, Jon decided that most styles only suited some types of body builds, ages, fitness levels and was very male dominant. Utilising his training in all the styles, combined with his own extensive knowledge in the dynamics of the human body in his profession as Chiropractor and Osteopath, Jon began to develop Koshu K’empo Australia. This eclectic martial art suits all Australians regardless of their build, age and fitness levels and it suits both male and female. Technique and power are the fundamentals of Koshu K’empo with basic, easy and proven self-defence techniques. Over the years Grandmaster Dr Jon Puxty has helped develop and sustain other ‘sister’ clubs such as Goshu Kan Australia (Sydney based) which interact with Koshu K’empo Australia for high level Gradings, training weekends and social events. Koshu K’empo is a member of the M.A.I.A (Martial Arts Industry of Australia) and Instructors are Accredited Coaches with the Australian Sports Commission.

On 7/9/2021 one of our Black Belts passed away unexpectedly.

John Pettiford trained under Grandmaster Puxty for many years, and was an exceptional martial artist, a kind and caring man, a loving husband and father to a beautiful family.

Our love and condolences to Jenny, Nichole and Cathy. During these trying Covid times it has been even more difficult for the family, and hopefully when these lockdown's lift they can honour John' s memory with family and friends.

Until we meet again John xxoo

No training Monday night. Sorry all! Don’t think we will be back from Sydney in time 😞

28/12/2017

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas, and are ready for 2018 and saying goodbye to this year - I know I am.

I was unable to pick up awards (had a little di**le when someone ran a stop sign and nearly t-boned us!) last Friday so presentation will be next year as the shop is closed and I cannot pick them up until January 15th. So! We will present awards when we return to training next year. Congratulations to those that graded in December - great job!

29/11/2017

Grading is Monday 4th December and Presentation Monday 11th December. Goodluck to those grading!

On Friday 9th June we put to rest Grandmaster Dr Jon Puxty, founder of Koshu K'empo Karate. Grandmaster Puxty is both a warrior and a healer, a tough and strong man that worked on the farm, and a gentle man that healed so very many people over his life. A kind soul who never asked for anything, and willing to give the shirt off his back, yet a strong protector of his family, keeping them always safe. But first and foremost, he was a teacher. Nobody crossed his path without learning something. Grandmaster Puxty was wise beyond compare, he had a thirst for knowledge and he would share that knowledge with everyone. He is remembered by his wife Christine, and children Jason, Ingrid and Nathan and their spouses; and by his grandchildren Tyrolin, Ben, Jessica and Harry.

Koshu K'empo Karate will continue under the instruction of Instructor Ingrid and supported by sister club, Goshu Kan and Sensei Tony Lucisano.

We farewell Grandmaster Dr Jon K Puxty with an old Norse prayer dedicated by his son Jason:

Lo, There do I see my Father, and
Lo, there do I see my Mother, and
Lo, There do I see my Brothers and my Sisters and
Lo, There do I see my people back to the begining, and
Lo they do call to me, and
bid me take my place among them in the halls of Valhalla,
Where the brave will live forever.

Dated around 100 through 110 A.D.
