This week is National Recycling Week and we are focusing on reusing, re-purposing and zero waste.
Our colleague, Rhianna, has recently started a DIY project re-purposing used glass jars as food storage. She uses the jars to store foods such as oats, seeds, nuts and homemade salad dressings.
Her advice for others getting started:
1. When you have jars ready for cleaning, carefully pour hot water into the jars and wait a few minutes. This will help remove the paper label on the jar easily.
2. If the glue or paper does not come off easily, mix baking soda and olive oil to a thick consistency. Scrub the mixture onto the jar with a toothbrush.
3. When the jar is sticker and glue free, clean and dry the entire jar and lid.
4. Label the jar with a sticker.
Tip β if you want to use the jars at a local store instead of plastic, weigh the empty jar and write the weight on the bottom of the jar. This means the weight can be taken off at the register.
What are you doing at home to recycle, re-purposing or reuse?
