Have you ever observed someone’s body language? It’s something I’ve liked doing for a long time now and consciously started when I was a student midwife.
🌿
I use to (and still do when I can) observe the midwives and obstetricians as they spoke to women and how they held their body and what words they used to communicate.
🌿
When communicating with others or observing people communicate with each other, notice their body movements, do they open their body up to the other or turn their body away? Do they make eye contact or do they look at a computer/phone? Do they appear interested in what you’re saying? What does it feel like to be around them (gut feeling)?
🌿
These observations can assist you in choosing a health care provider or support person. Trust your intuition.

Fear creates Tension which creates Pain. FTP or Failure to progress is commonly referred to in a hospital setting when labour stalls. But why is it stalling?
🌿
It is often due to an unconscious fear within the woman. This fear can be caused by the people in her birth space or fear she has held onto from a previous experience or even holding onto stories of other peoples experiences that they have shared with her.
🌿
The cervix needs to soften in order to open and fear creates tension within the body preventing or slowing the opening process down. This can also create or increase pain sensations within the body.
🌿
FTP in my world stands for Fear, Tension & Pain. Labour & birth is when fears and doubts can bubble to the surface and it is ideal to work on this before labour begins but can be released during labour as well if you allow yourself to go there.
🌿
