Obese to Beast is as close as it gets! Obese to Beast will comprise of 5 sessions per week (4 training sessions,
1 educational session) The gym sessions will be held at Animal Kingdom Gym in the Northern Beaches and some outdoor sessions around the
Northern Beaches. The educational session will be theory and some
practical cooking lessions teaching you what foods to eat and how to
cook them.

Obese to Beast is back!

Many of you followed Jame's remarkable transformation, this time we want to help four individuals do the same.

No fitness level required, no one is too big or too unfit, we just need positive attitude and determination to change.

Gradually we will take you step by step to a fitter healthier you, educating you along the way, teaching you how to get the weight off and keep it off.

We are searching for only four participants living in the Northern Beaches to go through this 10 Week Transformation Challenge starting on Monday 20th March.

Sleep - the forgotten key to fat loss!

There are many components to fat loss. One specific component that very often gets overlooked is that of sleep. No one ever thinks of sleep being a factor in success. How much damage could you really do to your progress while you are sleeping?

The answer is that it's not what you do while you're sleeping per se, it's the quality and quantity of sleep you get that truly affects your success.

A lack of proper sleep increases you level of day time cortisol- the stress hormone. Heightened cortisol puts you at risk of breaking down muscle mass. Not only that but the most fat is burnt during sleep.

Improper sleep also have a major effect on your appetite for the next day. Ever noticed after a night of tossing and turning you crave carbohydrates the next day- this is because the body is fatigued and perceives that as low energy levels thus hunger kicks in.

Finally a lack of sleep affects your training, your body has not restored its energy therefore you struggle to maintain your normal intensity. Also sleep is the main time for recovery and rebuilding torn tissue from the previous day's training session, without this recovery time your training will suffer.

So make sure you're getting your 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Not only are you going to feel better, think clearer, and be much stronger when it comes to battling those food cravings that are so common with fat loss diets, but you'll also really be helping promote better long-term health as well.

Sugar: a hidden killer?
The average intake of an Australian diet entails about 40 teaspoons of sugar a day, not only increasing waist lines but research suggests the sweet treat significantly increases your risk of heat disease and type II diabetes. You may be thinking that your not consuming that much sugar, however it's hidden in almost everything prepackaged and ready to eat- Museli bars, Low fat alternatives ( yoghurt, mayonnaise) and sauces is a huge one ( tomato,barbecue, soy sauce and pasta sauces). To put it in perspective: a serving of just right cereal and low fat yoghurt is 10 teaspoons of sugar...

It's simple to avoid the refined sugar though.. Stop eating anything out of a packet and ready to eat. If it has numbers or words you don't understand don't put it in your body. It's all about clean and lean.

Practicing portion control is one of the most difficult tasks facing anyone who eats out or even eats in these days. A few quick tips to help control your portions

- Use a smaller plate when preparing meals; this will change your perspective on what a reasonable amount of food. A smaller plate = smaller portion sizes
- Get to know what a serving size is. I.E. a healthy portion of lean steak is 120 grams … not 400 grams
- Avoid mindless eating – stop eating in front of the T.V. and take time to enjoy and consciously eat your healthy meals
- Don’t drink away your calories – Soft Drink and Alcohol are ridiculously high in calories and have no nutritional benefit so avoid.

So proud today James was announced as the OVERALL 10 Week Challenge Winner out of all the 29 ASN stores nationwide.

Thank you to Australian Sports Nutrition for putting this competition on and changing my habits and my life. Thanks to Easy Eating for providing me with top quality meals keeping me fueled day and night.
