Theraplay® available - Play is a powerful teacher for all of life, but especially in early development. Therefore, when trauma has occurred play can be an excellent tool to support regulation and relationship repair. Theraplay® is a dyadic therapy approach to support parent-child relationships through play. If this sounds like something you are interested in, please don't hesitate contact JMW Therapy at jane@jmwtherapy.com.au for a free 15 minute consult.

"For me, depression is not sadness. It's not having a bad day and needing a hug. It gave me a complete and utter sense of isolation and loneliness. It's debilitation was all-consuming, and it shut down my mental circuit board. I felt worthless, like I had nothing to offer, like I was a failure. Now, after seeking help, I can see that those thoughts, of course couldn't be more wrong... There's nothing weak about struggling with mental illness." Kristen Bell

How important is it to be understood?

Isolation and stigma can increase the debilitating effects of mental illness.

Understanding and support can be a significant factor for that can make the difference for those with mental illness and their loved ones.

You don’t have to be a therapist, psychologist or counsellor to assist.

Are you an ally for those with mental illness? If not – why not?

This month is Mental Health Month and take up the challenge to support those with mental illness and their loved ones.

Today is World Mental Health Day 2023!

This year’s focus is on mental health as a “universal human right”.

We have lots of different ways to acknowledge mental health. A day a year is great, but talking about it is (in my opinion) one of the most valuable contributions you can make.

So think about how you might use your voice - whether it's to lead the discussion or reach out directly so those around you to ask how they, are, how you can help or advocate for those struggling and their families and friends.

“Depression is a leading cause of disability worldwide … Globally it is estimated that 5% of adults suffer from depression”.

“One in every 100 death is by su***de [and] it is the fourth leading cause of death for young people aged 15-29 years.
With figures like that it’s so important to increase awareness of mental illness and good mental health.

It’s also Mental Health Month in Australia.

Did you know that October is Mental Health Month in Australia?

Whether you are in NSW like me, or other parts of Australia, it’s always a good time to think about and reflect on mental health, mental illness and wellbeing.

As a therapist I work with people every day who are managing and/or suffering from mental health issues.

But we all have a role to play in supporting people around us and in the community - you might be a community champion, a workplace wonder, a school superstar, an amazing ally or an incredible individual.

Mental health stigma can be one of the greatest challenges for those who are suffering, or for families & friend of a loved one who is suffering. October is the ideal month to start thinking about what your role might be?
