We are so thrilled to have Dr Hilary Butt and Dr Bridget Daniel join our team at Brunker Road. Hillary has an interest in Perinatal Mental Health and is part of the Pouches Parent & Child Health Services team, and Bridget also has a special interest in Women's Health and assists in surgery with Dr Nesbitt. Both Hilary and Bridget work at John Hunter Hospital in the Antenatal Clinic one day a week. For the past few decades Hilary and Bridget have been working as experienced GPs in Newcastle and are an amazing asset to our practice and for all our patients.

Immunisation is the safest and most effective way of giving protection against a disease. After immunisation, your child is far less likely to catch the disease if there are cases in the community. If your child does catch the disease, illness is less severe and recovery is quicker compared to an un-immunised child.
If enough people in the community are immunised, the infection can no longer be spread from person to person and the disease might die out altogether. This is how smallpox was eliminated from the world, and how polio has disappeared from many countries. -health.gov.au

Please be sure to book in on or after your baby's 6 week mark. Your child's 6 week vaccination is not registered to be administered before a minimum of 6 weeks of age. Their 4 year old immunisation has to be on or within the month after their 4th birthday too. As a principle, we ask that other immunisations are also booked in on the date of or close after your child's schedule, so they are also recognised by the register. We apologise for the Government's strict protocol with the schedule at this time.

We are now running flu clinics! The 4 strain flu vaccine is provided for free to people over 65, and those with chronic conditions including asthma, lung disease, cardiac disease, immune deficiencies and cancers. If you do not qualify for a free vaccine, we offer them for around $20 once you’ve seen the GP. Phone now on 49523700 to book in for one of our early morning clinics.

We are still waiting for the under 3 year old government funded and private flu vaccines to arrive.

In 2012, Melanoma was the 4th most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. Newcastle is a beach town, and the rate of diagnosis is on the rise. Our General Practitioners perform skin checks and remove skin lesions in our private, purpose built operating rooms. Dr Peter Coleman, Dr Peter Miles and Dr Neil Macpherson perform these clinics. Dr. Neil MacPherson has had specialised training in dermatology. He also has an interest in Psoriasis, Acne and Dermatitis as well as other skin conditions.
Dr. Andrew Montanari has now joined our practice. He has worked purely in skin cancer management and skin removal for over 10 years. We are pleased to announce that we shall be holding Diabetic Education Classes here at our practice on Monday evenings from 6 - 7pm, commencing around April 24th. There will be 3 sessions for a total of $75 - payable on booking. Book fast, as our classes hold a maximum of 10 clients per session. BRGP secretary Noelene Gray recently went to Vanuatu and delivered our gift of a baby heart monitor and adult and child oxygen meters to nurses running a clinic on Santo. Members of our practice are actively involved in Vanuatu. Dr John Marley ( previously Professor of General Practice and Pro Vice Chancellor of Health at University of Newcastle ) is helping develop their intern training program.

It's all about supporting local art and its business at Brunker Medical. We are constantly asked where we scored some of our vivid photography of Newcastle from, so here’s the backstory.

Blake Parker grew up with a passion for the oceans of Newy, and by the time he was 10 he began to shoot. From there it progressed to better gear, more time shooting and incessant practice.

The shots we have in the practice were taken with a Canon 7D with either a 35mm lens (perspective of our eye) or a 10-22mm lens (quite wide). Dave Kelly at Mayfield custom-built the waterproof housing unit that Blake put his camera in.

The stunning wave photos were taken on calm days and Blake generally had to duck under the lip of small waves to get the shot. They tended to have less water out of place.

The 5 incredible shots were printed at Shannon Hartigan Images Hunter St Gallery. To reproduce the accuracy of what you see is exceptionally harder than it looks. Upon printing, the canvases are then spray laminated, which is UV, scratch and water resistant.

Blake is now pursuing a life of European photography, whilst working as a primary school teacher in London. We have an awesome playroom like none other at our Medical Centre, for all our cute younger patients! This safely enclosed rumpus room has great toys, a tent and play tube, so your babes can play and let it all out! And for those who just want to couch potato out, we have their favourite TV shows playing – ABC kids of course! But who are we fooling, the oldies can still join in on the fun in the playroom too!
Now for our new mums and bubs…we are thrilled about our 2 new rockers for breastfeeding, cushioned and reclinable with leg rests too. You can feed your bub while watching the older cheeky ones play, and they can't escape unless you let them!
Our accessible toilet room has a wall mounted change table and nappy bin for your convenience too.
