Meet Abbie! Our new Occupational Therapist

Abbie is a compassionate and patient-led Occupational Therapist who prioritises client-centered care and the development of meaningful partnerships with her clients and their family members.

Abbie empowers her clients to achieve their therapeutic goals by adopting a collaborative and creative approach. 

Abbie is passionate about supporting clients to build their independence with daily activities, such as cooking, dressing, self-care tasks, school-based tasks, leisure activities, exploring assistive technology, and developing upper limb function. Abbie has a special interest in working with children and supporting clients with physical disabilities, such as Cerebral Palsy.  

Abbie completed her Occupational Therapy degree at the University of Newcastle. She stays up to date with the latest research to ensure that she follows best practice and delivers evidence-based therapy. Abbie has completed additional training in Functional Hand Use and the Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) approach.

Now offering Platelet Rich Plasma PRP injections at Alike Health

PRP therapy is a non surgical option used to support joint health and help manage arthritic or inflammatory joint conditions

🩸 What is PRP?
PRP uses your own blood, which is processed in a centrifuge to concentrate growth and repair cells that support healing and recovery

🩺 Your treatment with Dr Liz
Dr Liz uses ultrasound guidance to improve anatomical precision before carefully injecting your PRP into the affected joint

For some patients, steroid or local anaesthetic joint injections may also be recommended and can be performed onsite

⏱️ What to expect
• Your blood with be collected (like a blood test) to be spun in the centrifuge machine
• The injection takes less than 15 minutes
• Minimal discomfort with a fine needle
• Performed onsite at Alike in a clean clinical setting

🌿 After your injection
Mild soreness or swelling for 24 to 48 hours is common
Ice packs and rest may help
Improvement may begin within days or weeks depending on the injection
Follow up and next steps will be guided by Dr Liz

🧠 Safety and care
Joint injections are generally safe
Possible temporary pain or swelling
Infection is rare
Allergic reactions are very rare
All risks are discussed prior to treatment with Dr Liz

💪 Long term joint care
PRP works best as part of a broader plan which may include physiotherapy, exercise guidance, weight management and pain relief strategies

💰 Fees
Initial consultation (one off fee) $435
May be eligible for a Medicare rebate with a valid referral
PRP injection $500
PRP with combination therapy $700
A course of three treatments spaced fortnightly is often recommended

📄 Referrals
A referral from your doctor is required for Medicare rebatable fees as Dr Liz is a specialist

📅 Recovery timeline
Week 1: mild swelling or warmth is normal
Weeks 2-3: pain and stiffness may start to improve
Week 6 and beyond: gradual return to normal activity

Our Specialist Doctors require a referral from your GP or Doctor. This can be emailed to our practice for review.

Our Allied health team do NOT require a referral. Please call or email us to make an appointment.

Meet Laura! Our Senior Physiotherapist with over a decade of experience supporting older adults (65+) and adults across the lifespan with neurological disability.

Laura has a special interest in
✔️ exercise for healthy ageing
✔️ falls prevention
✔️ neurodegenerative conditions (e.g. Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis)
✔️ palliative care
✔️ manual handling in the healthcare setting

Laura is also trained is PD Warrior - an intensive exercise-based program for people with Parkinson’s disease.

Laura has availability on Fridays at our Alike Health Hub in the Junction NSW.
