Did you see our Target haul? 🛍️
Here is one of the games we picked up that our clients loved this week!

This colour matching activity is so versatile. It supports so many areas of development and can be easily adapted to meet the needs of your clients.
Downgrading: if the demands of the tweezers are too tricky, swap them to work on the pincer grasp 🤏
Upgrading: make it multi-sensory! Have your client roll over a peanut ball, hold a plank position or provide auditory prompts.

We love changing games up!!

This simple picture-making game is doing a lot more than it looks.

We’re working on:• visual perception• fine motor skills• attention & following directions• early maths concepts

Easy ways to grade it up:– Lie on tummy to target core/extensor strength– Use tweezers for extra fine motor challenge– Stand on a balance board for added stability work– Add movement breaks (jump to collect each piece!)– Give coordinate ranges instead of exact points (and hide picture reference)
Same activity, so many ways to target different goals depending on your child💚

Save this for your next session or try it at home!

Swimming is often a goal we hear from families… but it’s so much more than just learning to swim 🏊‍♂️

Through an OT lens, swimming supports the whole child. The water provides deep pressure and resistance, helping to regulate the nervous system and improve body awareness. At the same time, children are building strength, coordination, confidence, and independence — all while having fun.

We also use swimming as an opportunity to support:
✨ Emotional regulation
✨ Following instructions and routines
✨ Social interaction and turn-taking
✨ Confidence in new or unpredictable environments

It’s not just about swimming — it’s about creating skills that carry over into everyday life.

Activity deas to work on toileting!🚽

Are you having difficulty progressing with toileting at home? Here are some activity and resource ideas for the home!

Placing pegs on the shirt
Have the child reach to take the pegs off their shirt.
This work on coordination, body awareness and fine motor skills needing for wiping.

Pretend play
Using dolls and teddies to simulate going to the bathroom.
It assists in engaging the child and normalises using the toilet when needed.

In OT, we work on a wide range of skills to assist a child with toileting including motor skills and body awareness.

Feeding starts long before mealtime. 🥄

Children who struggle with food textures often show the same sensory responses in play; avoiding sticky, wet, soft or unpredictable textures.

It’s not just “fussy eating.”

Their nervous system is telling us it doesn’t feel safe.

In OT, we build tolerance through sensory play first, because regulation and safety come before successful feeding.

Play is often where feeding progress begins ✨

Roll, reach, crunch, shoot 💪🎯

Try this activity to target:
core activation and strengthening
Visual motor integration
Supine extension
Vestibular input
Regulation
Try adding a whistle to support and promote breath control and regulation 🫁 Tip: make sure your child is breathing out as they sit up! This prevents them from holding their breath and gives them a boost during the tricky part!
