It’s a great privilege to work with our excellent paediatric colleagues at ANGAU Memorial Provincial Hospital for the delivery of MOPEC with Monash Children's Simulation, changing the paradigm on how we can train clinicians virtually.

The redevelopment is a collaboration of both Governments and part of the commitment to strengthen healthcare in PNG.

In the past year under the , MCS has been working closely with ANGAU Memorial Provincial Hospital (AMPH) in Papua New Guinea to deliver workshops to help upskill and train paediatric nurses, clinicians, and medical staff at AMPH.

The MOPEC (Monash Online Paediatric Essentials Course) SBE workshops were designed as virtual and in-person training run by MCS in Melbourne, facilitated by senior clinicians at AMPH and supported by staff from JID. The simulation-based workshops involved participants to demonstrate key skills and techniques needed in serious medical situations encountered regularly in PNG and at AMPH.

At completion of the SBE workshops, (then) Project Director, Dave Lavers and Acting Consul-General, Lae, Nina Eliseo presented certificates to participants.

Participants were also given access to a wealth of theoretical content, written and designed specifically for AMPH through Monash University's learning platform. Online and offline access was provided to allow participants to reflect and revise over educational content in an interactive manner.

MCS looks forward to seeing the progression of the project and further facilitation by AMPH paediatric clinicians and staff. We hope we have instilled a strong foundation of knowledge and confidence within the participants and thank all those who have greatly assisted and have taken interest in this project and course.

We acknowledge and provide thanks to the Australian Government who have funded this work as part of the redevelopment of the ANGAU Memorial Provincial Hospital, managed by Johnstaff International Development (JID).
