Under the leadership of Dr Kris and our manager Naomi, we’ve grown into a passionate team, welcomed thousands of patients, and stayed true to our mission: putting patients and their vision first 👁️💙

To our amazing community, thank you for trusting us with your eye health. And to our incredible team — your dedication, heart and hard work are what make SCO truly special.

Queensland is his home state, and we are on his country 🖤💛❤️

Associate Professor Kris Rallah-Baker, a proud Yuggera/Warangu/Wiradjuri man and Australia’s first Indigenous ophthalmologist, has opened the 2025 A*O Skills Expo by performing a Welcome to Country.

He is a champion for eye health and through his participation in the Indigenous Eye Health Unit - IEHU's 'Eyecare Now, Eyecare Always' campaign, supporting mob through an Indigenous-led and culturally appropriate way.

Among Kris’ many roles, he sits on the RANZCO Federal Indigenous Committee and is Co-Chair of the College’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Committee.

〰️At SCO, we aim to continually deliver informative educational topics 📚 for our Optometrists and General Practitioners, helping to ensure we continue to learn together and that we are all on the same page as a collaborative healthcare team.
We find hosting regular education evenings helps create positive impacts on our patients and their experience. This is just another way Your Local Eye Doctor likes to give back to the community 🙌🏻

〰️So much work goes into putting these events together. It’s pure happiness and relief once the event is set up and we get a moment together as a team to debrief and celebrate the efforts to bringing our referrers another successful event 🥂

A: YES ✔ This is for multiple reasons.
1️⃣ A current referral means our clinical team can triage your appointment correctly which lets us know exactly what scans and tests you will require and what the clinical urgency is
2️⃣ We can give you detailed information about your appointments costs
3️⃣ You will only receive a Medicare rebate/s (if applicable) if you have a current referral
