One of the biggest food lies of all time is that all calories are created equal.

Food is more than calories; it’s information that our cells need to function, information that our metabolism can use to either run efficiently or sluggishly.

When you eat sugar, fruit juice, or refined carbohydrates, they go straight to your liver, where they start manufacturing fat. This triggers more insulin resistance and causes chronically elevated blood insulin levels, driving your body to store everything you eat as even more belly fat.

Broccoli, on the other hand, is rich in fiber and low in carbohydrates and sugar. You’d have to eat a huge amount of broccoli to reach the same amount of calories that just one small bag of candy could provide, and thanks to fiber, you’d be full long before that could ever happen.

Eating well should not just be about watching QUANTITY, you need to pay attention to QUALITY.

I'm a little obsessed with choline after writing about it for my new book (coming at the end of May). Here are some quick facts:

💛 Choline can treat fatty liver, so can potentially improve or reverse insulin resistance.

💜 Choline is the precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which makes it calming, good for memory, and a natural appetite suppressant.

💛 We can make some choline but also need to consume at least 400 mg.

💜 Our ability to make choline relies on estrogen, so some of the brain benefits of estrogen therapy could be from choline. (You could also just take choline.)

💛 Best food sources include egg yolks and organ meats.

💜 Scientists are pretty worried about how little choline some people eat.
