To those who questioning returning to the gym, government owned premises will be closed, but privately own gym such as Fitness First will still be open.
We have taken measures to ensure the gym is a clean and healthy environment (four times a day thanks to the amazing staff)
Bonus, much more space to work out

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

On 23 March 2020 the Minister made Public Health Order that directs the closure of certain places of social gathering, including gyms and other indoor recreation facilities.

Keeping fit remains important, visit Make Healthy Normal for workouts you can try at home.

Is it safe for me to go to the gym? Here are some tips on social distancing in gyms:

• Keeping fit remains important. If you are well and have not been asked to self-isolate then you can go to the gym. Don’t go to the gym if you are unwell.

• You should use wipes provided before you use each piece of equipment.

• You should try to go to the gym when it’s less crowded.

• Gym classes are currently OK, but this advice may change.

• Gyms should be ensuring that they are cleaning regularly, using appropriate disinfectant

A huge shout out to client Iris, who is training for her upcoming wedding. Over the last 4 weeks, with controlled flexible eating, she has lost 1kg and 0.9% body fat, whilst still gaining a whopping 0.7kg in lean muscle mass! Can't wait to see how how far her fitness journey can take her

Deadlift Mondays! Been a while since I've gone through a strength mesocycle and felt good! As always with cues for safety and technique:

⏺️ Ground your heels into the ground and grab the bar. Feet should be hip width or narrower (for conventional)
⏺️ Extend legs until you feel a stretch in your hamstrings and secure in your stance
⏺️ Ensure chest is elevated slightly higher than your hips. Squeeze shoulders back and keep spine neutral
⏺️ Create tension by pulling on the bar and stretching out your lats
⏺️ Drive through the ground through feet like a leg press
⏺️ Think about locking the hips, squeezing your buns and bring your shoulder blades back and down. Try not to engage traps at the top
⏺️ Reverse the motion with control on the descent

I experimented with a hook grip and found my grip was much more secure making my lifts much smoother.

A big shout out to Ashley who is sadly leaving training for a few months as she is a few weeks from giving birth to a baby boy!

One of my longest serving clients who has become a dear friend, it has been an incredible journey taking her from a newbie at training to reaching her goals in leaps and bounds. To learn she had become pregnant with 'Triple A' and train incredibly hard up until this point, all the while sharing many stories along the way has made the journey a joy.

Wishing Ashley all the best, and cannot wait to see her and her new Triple A battery in the gym in the near future!

Taking my students through a refresher session in striking in combination with footwork. On aggressive offense ensure both feet are timed moving forward with your strikes. On moving defence the same applies. Try the following with a partner or with a mirror. 4 laps forwards and backwards:

Jab cross
Toe kicks. One leg each lap
Hook hook upper upper
Roundhouse kicks. One leg each lap

Ensure you end up in your orthodox stance after your strikes. Happy striking.
