We are happy to be continuing our collaboration with Whitehorse Police to be promoting the ADID card and lanyard and raising awareness about travelling independently in the community for individuals with special needs. If you are interested in our free safety products please visit www.adid.org.au

SAFETY CARD PROJECT

Victoria Police is delighted support the Safety Card Project initiative, which is designed to assist individuals in our community who may need extra assistance when travelling.

The Safety Card Project was developed in 2018 and has assisted many residents in the Boroondara, Manningham, Monash and Whitehorse communities in engaging with community groups, transport operators and emergency service personnel.

The Safety Card Project is still running in the Whitehorse Council area. If you want more information and want a set of Safety products for your individual you can contact the Box Hill Police Station for more information.

The Whitehorse Proactive Police Unit work closely with families who have children living with disabilities to understand their needs and develop appropriate processes for face-to-face interactions.

Families can choose to provide police with information that may assist police respond to and help children and young people living with disabilities, such as typical behaviours and effective communications strategies in the instance they might need help.

For example, if a child living with autism is reported missing, police can refer to the information on that child’s confidential profile to ensure appropriate care measures are in place when they are located.

Whitehorse police can also provide families a lanyard and small identification card with contact details and personal notes that a person can carry with them. In the instance a child has difficulty communicating, this information can assist police respond to the needs of the child.

Whitehorse police are open to working with any families who may benefit from this service. To speak to police about this, call the Box Hill Police Station on (03) 8892 3200 and speak to the Crime Prevention Officer or Youth Resource Officer.
