We are pleased to let you know that Darren will be available to take appointments from 1:00 PM on Wednesday, 27th of August.

Call us today to make your booking.

Gwen, our regular physiotherapist, will be away from 7th July to 17th July. During this period, we are pleased to welcome Darren Reed, who will be covering in her absence. Gwen will return after this time.

Darren is a musculoskeletal physiotherapist with extensive clinical experience in private practices across Greater Sydney and the Blue Mountains. He has served as a team physiotherapist for several sports teams, including the Penrith Panthers.

Before moving to Oberon, Darren spent 20 years as a senior lecturer in anatomy at the University of Sydney, where he also completed a PhD focused on rehabilitation exercises for shoulder pain. He continues to work as a research affiliate with the university, contributing to projects on shoulder and low back rehabilitation.

Beyond his academic and clinical work in Australia, Darren has spent seven years living and working in Nepal, where he helped establish the first physiotherapy school at Kathmandu University. He and his wife maintain strong ties with the country and continue to collaborate on healthcare education initiatives there.

In his spare time, Darren enjoys meeting new people, gardening, and cycling around Oberon — even in the winter!

Please join us in welcoming Darren during this short period.

Dr Santharuban Balaratnam : Welcome to Oberon 😊

I am Dr Santharuban Balaratnam, and I am pleased to be joining the Oberon Medical Centre team as a long-term doctor committed to serving the local community.

I completed my medical degree in 2010 . I gained valuable experience in general practice before moving to Australia in 2018. Since then, I have worked in Emergency Medicine across several busy metropolitan hospitals, mainly at Fairfield Hospital. These roles have helped me develop strong clinical skills, a calm and effective approach to acute care, and a deep commitment to patient-centred medicine.

With a solid foundation in Emergency Medicine, I am now excited to begin the next chapter of my career as a Rural General Practitioner. I look forward to using my emergency care experience to support rural healthcare and bring a comprehensive, compassionate approach to general practice.

After many years in city hospitals and emergency departments, I am embracing the opportunity to live and work in this beautiful country town. I am passionate about delivering high-quality, holistic care and building long-term, trusted relationships with my patients.

I value clear, empathetic communication and take pride in working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. My focus is on contributing meaningfully to the health and well-being of the Oberon community—now and in the years to come.
