Supporting a child with autism brings joy beyond words—watching them speak their first sentence, make a friend, or simply smile with confidence makes every effort worthwhile. You're changing a life, truly.
1. Stick to a Routine – Kids do better when they know what’s coming next. Keep things consistent and use visual cues if needed.
2. Keep It Simple – Use clear, straight-to-the-point language. Back it up with gestures or pictures to help get the message across.
3. Play to Their Strengths – Every kid’s got something they’re good at. Find it, encourage it, and cheer them on.
4. Mind the Senses – Noisy rooms, bright lights, scratchy clothes—these can be overwhelming. Create calm spaces and give them sensory breaks.
5. Give ‘Em Time – Some kids just need a bit longer to process or respond. Be patient—no need to rush.
6. Ease into Social Stuff – Socialising can be tough. Help them practise in small, supported ways and praise the little wins.
7. Team Up with Their Crew – Chat with parents, carers, and therapists. The more you're on the same page, the better for the kiddo.
