DO YOU FOLLOW CALORIES ONLY OR CALORIES & MACROS ?

Counting calories is a complicated business. Fat, carbs, protein, sweets -- are all calories created equal, or are some better than others?

While reducing calorie intake is a proven way to reduce your weight, there’s no shortage of diets promising the same results but with more flexibility. One such popular diet is “If It Fits Your Macros” (IIFYM), which offers users less restriction in what they eat, while still guaranteeing results.

Rather than counting calories, IIFYM counts the daily macronutrients (fats, carbohydrates, and proteins) found in the foods and drinks we consume. Many people like the diet because it offers flexibility and allows them to consume any food as long as it fits into their daily macronutrient (“macro”) requirements

Although we look to the Scales to show us progress, sometimes we need to be mindful of all the other victories that come along with progress that is not measured by the scales.⚖️

Do not underestimate the transformation that your body is going through without you even realising it…. just because you jump on the scales and don’t see much of a change it doesn’t mean that you are not becoming stronger, fitter, more health-conscious and ultimately changing your body composition without even realising it 👑👊🏼

➡️How long does it take to form a fitness habit?

So how do you make physical activity a part of your daily life—better yet, a part of your routine? Some people suggest that it can take anywhere between 21 to 30 days to form a habit. Yet, I consistently see 5-day, 28-day, and 42-day challenges to help us learn a new behaviour.

💡Start with an exercise that is ridiculously small.
The best way to make exercise a habit is to start with an exercise that is so easy that you can do it even when you are running low on willpower and can’t get motivated to work out. In other words, start with something that is so easy you can’t say no - 10 crunches or 10 minute walk etc.. (build on this daily)

➡️Here are some ways you can make fitness a lasting habit:

🌸Make concise goals and be realistic. Set specific goals. ...
🌸Stay organised and consistent with a workout schedule. ...
🌸Plan and prepare your meals ahead of time. ...
🌸Participate in activities that you enjoy.
🌸Celebrate your accomplishments.

They are linked !!
🖤 Research shows that people who exercise regularly have better mental health and emotional wellbeing, and lower rates of mental illness. Taking up exercise seems to reduce the risk of developing mental illness. It also seems to help in treating some mental health conditions, like depression and anxiety.
Even if you’re not completely convinced, why not give it a go and see how you feel after four weeks of consistent exercise, you’ve got nothing to lose 💕✨

PORTION CONTROL - save this post for later
I know I don’t have to tell you how easy it is for portion sizes to start to creep up.
We are used to everything being supersized….❌
First advice to get on top of portion control is, check the labels on your food paying special attention to the serving size.
It’s shocking how small some suggested serving sizes actually are!
➡️Next, MEASURE your serving sizes at home. Get out a food scale or some measuring cups and see it firsthand.
😮This is a HUGE eye-opener about what portion sizes really look like.

Here are some quick guides for the eyeball technique:

👍Tip of your thumb: About 1 oz (28 grams) (cheese, PB, mayo, condiments)
👋Palm of your hand: About 3 oz (85 grams) protein (meat, fish)
⚾️Baseball: About 1 cup (75 grams) (raw veggies & fruit)
⛳️Golf ball: About ¼ cup (1 oz) (nuts or similar)
🎾Tennis ball: About ½ cup (30 grams) starchy carbs (pasta, rice, etc.) OR ½ cup cooked veggies
🏓Ping-pong ball: About 2 tbsp (PB, hummus)
💰10c: About 1 tsp (fats, oils, sugars, salad dressing, etc.)
💰50c: About one tbsp (same)

A few things about PILATES ....

✅Pilates can help improve performance by enhancing core control, flexibility, breathing and body strength.
✅Pilates also complements strength and endurance workouts as it keeps the spine mobile and helps keep one in check with alignment.
✅Pilates is all about core stability and lengthening or strengthening the muscles to give a strong body
✅Pilates brings an overall understanding of the body and the muscles needed to use for different positions

How does it do this? Pilates works on very deep, specific muscle groups to ensure that everything is ‘talking’ to each other. There is a reason why we call Pilates intelligent exercise; it works to educate participants on all parts of the body needed to improve or excel at movement.

CAN I GET RID OF CELLULITE?... not really BUT you can improve the appearance. Whilst it's complete normal AND perfectly fine, a lot of people including myself don't love cellulite and want to minimise and improve the appearance

Here are my 5 top tips:

1. Daily body brushing and massaging can jumpstart lymphatic drainage, which helps to eliminate toxins that can accumulate in the fat layer just under the skin

2. Get moving. It's one of the best treatments. It won't make your cellulite disappear, but strong muscles can make skin appear more even and it will assist body fat stores

3. A healthy well balanced diet, will help to decrease the layer of fat underneath the skin, making cellulite less noticeable.

4. Stay well hydrated, dehydration can make cellulite appear worse

5. Go easy on the sodium (salt) Salt-heavy foods, increases water retention in your body, which can cause bloating and enhance the appearance of cellulite

FOODS TO INCLUDE IN YOUR DIET.... oranges, kiwi fruit, tomato, greens, oily fish, papaya, ginger, berries, spice (chilli & cayenne pepper) just to name a few.
