A little skill for inducing calm and self-soothing when upset or overwhelmed.
~ Place your hand on your heart
~ Close your eyes if you wish
~ Take a deep breath, or a few slow breaths
~ Say something kind to yourself:
ā€I am doing my best’
ā€œThis is hard right now, but it will pass’
ā€˜I am a good enough parent’
~ Feel the warmth from your hand warming your heart

This is something that can be done throughout the day or night – by yourself or in the company of your baby.
Practice when the seas are calm rather than stormy, so you can ride the storm when it happens.

Birth Trauma Awareness Week – 16-23 July 2023
This year's theme is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result of the birth experience (referred to as postpartum PTSD).

1 in 20 mothers shows signs of postpartum PTSD within 12 weeks of giving birth; birthing people, fathers, non-birthing parents, and others witnessing traumatic births can also experience psychological trauma.

Join us this week as we shine the light on postpartum PTSD as a result of the birth experience. This is such a common experience that presents to us in clinical practice and we know that intervention can make all the difference.
