What if “eating healthy” isn’t enough to support fertility when your body’s already depleted?

Most women don’t realise how easily nutrient stores can become depleted, especially after years on the pill, heavy periods, digestive issues, skipped meals, or restrictive diets.

Nutrient deficiencies can affect key fertility processes like:

⚙️ Hormone production
🧬 Egg quality and DNA repair
🕰 Ovulation
🌱 Implantation
🔥 Inflammation levels

And here's the thing:

✅ Fertility assessments don't test most nutrients
✅ Eating “healthy” doesn’t mean you getting enough nutrients OR absorbing them
✅ If you're struggling to conceive, a prenatal often isn't enough

So this one might ruffle some feathers, but it needs to be said. 👇🏻

When I hear the "nutrition advice" my clients have received from their fertility specialists, I'm honestly speechless. 😶

As a fertility nutritionist, I've dedicated my career to understanding how nutrition impacts reproductive health 👩‍⚕️🌿 and the research is clear:

➡️ What you eat, how you nourish your body and the state of your metabolic health MATTERS for fertility.

But somewhere between the research and the fertility clinic consultation room, this crucial information is getting lost.

🚫 Or worse - it’s being replaced with dangerous quick fixes and misinformation that could be sabotaging your chances.

The slides in this post share real advice that real women have been given by their health professionals.

And while it would be easy to laugh these off as one-offs, I hear stories like these constantly.

Here’s what I want you to know:

Battling sugar cravings while TTC? Here’s why they matter more than you think… 👇🏻

Believe me, I know all about those intense 3pm sugar cravings that can derail even the best of intentions! 🍫🍪

But it's important to know that those cravings aren’t just about needing "willpower” or having to deprive yourself.

They’re often a sign your blood sugar and hormones are out of balance. Which can have a knock-on affect on your fertility.

Managing cravings and reducing sugar intake are especially important if you’re:

➡️ Preparing for pregnancy and wanting to lose weight in a healthy way
➡️ Managing PCOS or insulin resistance
➡️ Wanting to optimise your hormone balance and egg quality

Why? Because unstable blood sugar doesn’t just leave you reaching for the sweet stuff…

It can also:
⚖️ Disrupt ovulation
🔥 Increase inflammation and weight gain
🌱 Make it harder to create the healthy environment your body needs for conception

But the good news is - there’s so much you can do to get on top of your cravings, support a healthy weight and optimise your fertility:

🌱 Start your day with a balanced breakfast — protein, healthy fats, and fibre are your best defence against mid-morning sugar crashes.

🥜 Keep nourishing snacks on hand, especially in places where temptation hits (hello, work biscuit jar).

💧 Try a drink first — sometimes cravings are really dehydration in disguise.

🚶 Distract yourself for 15–20 minutes with a walk, some sunshine, or a quick chat with a friend, then check in to see if you’re still hungry.

😴 Prioritise sleep, because poor rest makes cravings (and willpower) so much harder.

🙅‍♀️ Try a 3–4 week sugar detox - enough time for tastebuds to adjust and therefore smaller amounts of sugar will be just as satisfying.

Stepping into IVF is a huge decision. 💕

It often comes after months (or years) of trying, and it can feel like putting all of your hopes into one process, that might be your last chance.

That’s why I believe it's so critical to go into every cycle in the best possible position.

Because while IVF can be an incredible tool to help you build your family… it also comes with a cost - mentally, emotionally, physically, financially, and even energetically.

And what commonly gets overlooked, is that IVF doesn’t actually do anything to address the reason WHY you’re struggling to conceive in the first place.

Those underlying issues - whether it’s autoimmunity, hormone imbalances, nutrient deficiencies or inflammation - don’t just disappear when treatment begins.

They are still there, affecting your chances of success.

That’s why preparing your body BEFORE IVF matters so much. 🌱

If you're doing all the 'right' things, but it's still not happening... It’s time to dig deeper. 🕵️‍♀️

💡 I remember the moment I finally admitted falling pregnant was going to take so much more than a few superficial tweaks...

I was doing all the things I was 'meant to' - eating clean, taking my supplements, timing everything perfectly.

But month after month, I'd get my period. And even more disheartened.

What I didn’t realise? My body was out of balance. ⚖️

I had underlying inflammation, gut issues, and my stress was definitely not being managed well.

But once I started dealt with these things properly - everything changed.

✅ Because the good news is, so many contributing factors that are commonly overlooked, can absolutely be addressed.
