BSP. The Black Sheep Phenomenon.

You become so conditioned to managing relational rupture, deflection, triangulation, blame-shifting, emotional inconsistency, and self-abandonment that eventually you stop questioning whether the relationship is actually healthy for you.

Dysregulated people often seek nervous system safety through narrative control - managing how others perceive you instead of managing their own behaviour.

You just become the repairer.

The peacemaker.
The overexplainer.
The one who apologises for having feelings.
The one who reaches out first.
The one who keeps trying to restore connection with people who continually avoid accountability.

You may recognise behaviours like:
😩stonewalling
😩passive-aggressive jibes
😩gaslighting
😩colluding behind your back
😩narrative control
😩emotional withholding
😩ignoring
😩blocking
😩social triangulation
😩blame-shifting
😩you apologise for expressing hurt

…and still not know how to stop trying to repair the relationship. Maybe it’s time to ask Why?

My newest blog explores:
🫶🏼the nervous system behind rupture and repair
🫶🏼the difference between healthy space and punishment
🫶🏼why some people cannot tolerate honest communication
🫶🏼 the benefit of having realistic expectations about dysregulated people
🫶🏼and 5 important questions to ask yourself before trying to repair a relationship that keeps hurting you.

“What’s wrong with me, Tani? I feel weirdly calm.”

Honestly? Those are some of my favourite words to hear around Week 4 of my program.

Because for many people, calm does not feel normal at first.

When a nervous system has spent years running on hypervigilance, overthinking, urgency, emotional chasing, adrenaline, people-pleasing, or constant scanning… peace can initially feel unfamiliar. Even uncomfortable.

The absence of stress chemistry can feel strange when survival mode became the baseline.

That “weirdly calm” feeling is often the nervous system beginning to stabilise.
The vagal brake becoming more effective.
The body slowly learning:
“I do not need chaos in order to feel safe.”

My new Restore blog explores:

☀️dopamine and the nervous system
👅 why we chase emotionally activating dynamics
😩the crash that follows the chase
🥱 why healthy connection can initially feel “boring”
💚 and how restoring vagal tone changes what the body starts reaching for

Sometimes healing does not feel exciting.
Sometimes it feels strangely quiet.

And that is often where real restoration begins.

The results you create in reality will reflect back to you what your core thoughts and beliefs are. It’s always a perfect match.

Blaming the mirror, getting snarky with it, throwing it in the trash, getting others to help you stomp on it, doesn’t change what you’re looking at.

You either leave in your wake a mountain of smashed mirrors or you address what you’re really looking at.

Thank you, mirror, what a gift.

Everyone wants the technique. The breath. The protocol. The fast breakthrough. But nervous system healing is relational and biological before it is procedural.

The body asks:
“Is it safe enough yet?”
Not:
“Did you complete the exercise correctly?”

The Nervous System is not a machine.

We cannot force it into healing through intensity, repetition, or overwhelm.

One of the most misunderstood parts of nervous system healing is this: Just because something is called “regulation” does not mean it is regulating for your nervous system.

In the past year I worked with clients who had been making beautiful progress inside a gentle, paced nervous system program. Their bodies were beginning to feel safer and their symptoms were softening. They were building capacity slowly and steadily.

Then they attended intensive breathwork, EDMR, TRE sessions, and followed it up with intense shaking exercises, breathing more EDMR and micro-dosing at healing retreats and at home. Instead of feeling better, they became significantly dysregulated.

More overwhelmed. More disconnected. More activated. More exhausted. This is not because they “failed”. And it does not mean any of these practices are inherently bad - quite the opposite.

It means their nervous system did not have the capacity for that level of activation at that time.

Dear friend

We didn’t learn friendship the easy way.
We learned to survive first.
To hide parts of ourselves.
To expect that trust would eventually be broken.

We didn’t learn connection in safe, steady ways. We learned to read the room. To hide what was really going on. To keep the peace. To survive.

So when we go quiet sometimes…
or hold back, or take things personally…
it hurts, but we understand.

Because it’s not this moment. It’s something older, and the aftermath still echoes through our lives.

In the relationships that didn’t hold. In the divorces we never planned. In the children who carry pieces of our nervous systems in their own small bodies. In the quiet ache of “I tried my best… and it still didn’t work.”

And still… we’re here. Still choosing connection.

If you also have that friend … ⬇️

Your brilliant body has an organised way in which it recovers from stress.

The most challenging stage of this process is not getting through the second stage of Recovery ⬇️ when you feel drained, exhausted or even very sick… it is the when the Sympathetic system comes back online to mobilise and remove whatever excess stress is still present, from your brain.

This is the stage you want to do exactly what you shouldn’t: say yes when it’s a no, reach out to the very person who hurt you, believe the old beliefs and thoughts that suddenly grip you and put you back into overwhelm again.

Stages 4 & 5 ⬇️ is a PIVOTAL part of your recovery from stress - and this is when it is necessary for you to accept that it may feel like a relapse… but it isn’t.

The familiar discomfort is a biological part of your recovery phase.

Take it extra easy, stay under a blanket for days if you must, sleep, watch your favourite shows, reach out to your therapist or trusted friend, drink lots of water and eat nourishing food… ALLOW your body to return to autonomic balance where Sympathetic and Parasympathetic are in homeostasis again.

Your body is asking for something NEW!

This is a tremendous theme right now…

A demanding pull to step up and be more authentic… to stop overriding what you’re actually feeling.

But when your body is used to surviving and DOING, thriving and BEING can feel very l unfamiliar… even unsafe.

Nothing is going wrong.

Your system is learning something new.

Read my latest blog on making sense of adrenaline surges, simple regulation tools, and the importance of letting go of resistance in a time of transformation.

The body is an interconnected ecosystem.

Changes in one system - like declining oestrogen during perimenopause - can ripple through digestion, microbial balance, and mental health.

During perimenopause and menopause, declining oestrogen and shifts in the microbiome can lead to vaginal dryness, discomfort, recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), digestive changes, and increased anxiety or panic episodes.

By understanding and supporting the dorsal vagal circuit, gut microbiome, and vaginal microbiome, you can:

🫶🏼Reduce anxiety and panic related to digestive or hormonal shifts,

🫶🏼Support smoother digestion and less bloating,

🫶🏼Maintain healthier vaginal ecosystems,

🫶🏼Navigate perimenopause and menopause with more comfort, clarity, and confidence.
