The term "hyposensitivity to touch and movement" refers to a reduction in sensitivity to tactile (sense of touch) and vestibular (sense of balance) experiences. People who have tactile hyposensitivity may enjoy long periods of spinning or other strenuous physical activities. If the touch is not deliberate, direct, and intense, they may be less aware of it. Children who are hyposensitive to touch may accidentally injure others while playing due to a lack of understanding of other people's sensory experiences combined with their own high pain tolerance.
Tactile hyposensitive people might experience the urge to touch everything around them. They require significantly more sensation than most other individuals do in order to elicit a touch response. Finding safe and enjoyable kinds of tactile stimulation to incorporate into one's daily life can help many people manage their hyposensitivity to touch.
Some activities could include:
- Drawing in sand or salt.
- Tactile box - which may include cornmeal, oatmeal, water, sand, different types of textured items, etc.
- Treasure Hunt: hide small objects in play-doh to find with fingers.
- Clap games with hands, either copying a clapping sequence or together.

What is Positive Behavior Support?

Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is an individualized and comprehensive approach to teaching and encouraging kids to behave in new ways. The method reduces the likelihood of challenging behavior by removing factors that may otherwise cause, encourage, or reward it.

The benefits of inclusion are numerous, not only for children with special needs and their families, but for all children.
When we include all children, they learn acceptance of other people, and that each person has unique abilities. Children learn from each other.
With inclusion in place, children with special needs are provided equal opportunity to participate in the same types of programs and activities as children without special needs.
Some of the benefits of inclusion are friendship skills, peer models, problem-solving skills, a positive self-image, and respect for others.
