Functional Therapy Co was established in 2022 with the aim of providing a neuroaffirming, holistic, and FUN approach to therapy within the wider health system. Functional Therapy has now grown into a boutique team of experienced Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists who are incredibly passionate about their work and their clients.

Our first teenage community connection group started today at Hijinx Hotel. Stay tuned for some videos of our groups completing some of the challenge rooms.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS - Week 1 ✨️

🟣 Our teen community connection group starts tomorrow, and we are so excited to facilitate another range of community groups.

🟡 Starting high school can feel overwhelming and isolating for many children, especially our neurodivergent participants who have spent the last 6-7 years adjusting to the expectations and routine of primary school. It's a huge transition, especially when there is the added pressure of new social rules/expectations, anxiety of meeting new peers, and making new friends.

🟠 Our teen community connection group aims to bring similar aged participants together through engaging in fun and low-demand community activities that naturally foster communication and connection.

🟣 We have had wonderful feedback from previous participants who have attended these groups, who reported that having a structured group activity helped reduce social anxiety, because they didn't have the direct pressure of initiating and engaging in social conversation with the other group participants at the start. Some of our participants have even connected beyond the group sessions, which we love to see✨️

🟡 We can't wait to facilitate and support our participants in these next groups and get their feedback on their experiences.

🟣 Our clinicians have put together a FUN group program for the summer holidays for a range of ages and goals!

🟠 Community groups are focused on developing motor skills, sensory regulation, exploring different interests, and opportunities to engage with peers of a similar age while supported with 1-2 of our wonderful clinicians.
