Here's how Superyou celebrated NAIDOC Week 2025, marking 50 years of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience!
The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy
Celebrating Art & Culture
This year’s NAIDOC theme is a powerful celebration of our collective journey. We honour the achievements of the past, embrace the strength of our emerging leaders, and look forward with the vision of our communities and the enduring legacy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors.
At our Walyalup Hub, we’ve brought this vision to life through meaningful collaboration. We partnered with Noongar and Yamatji women to host a contemporary Aboriginal dot painting workshop, creating a safe space for cultural expression, connection, and storytelling.
What does this artwork represent?
• At its heart is community, symbolised by the central circle. This represents not only the Walyalup Superyou community, but also everyone touched by those within it. Community has many meanings, and we invite each person to interpret it in a way that resonates with their own experience.
• The black outer rings and the surrounding people symbols are also part of this broader concept of community. The black rings reflect the barriers often faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples—barriers that are real and ongoing. The people figures represent our team, standing together in support and solidarity.
• Together, these elements show that community is not just a centre. It’s a living, breathing network of people, challenges, and support systems. As Janelle Brahim shared, “Sometimes it takes blackfellas two steps forward outside the black circle, and sometimes two steps back. It’s a conversation.”
• The hands are a powerful symbol of our contribution, leaving our mark, giving back, and guiding with care and respect.
• The purple tones evoke a sense of connection, healing, and belonging; our aspiration for every person who walks through our doors.
This piece is more than art—it’s a conversation starter, and visual story of unity, resilience, and hope. It reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering a culturally secure environment where every individual feels seen, supported, and celebrated.
A heartfelt thank you to the beautiful Yorgas who made this artwork— and our NAIDOC Week celebration—so special.
Thank you, Ebony, Brooke, and Janelle for sharing your culture, creativity, and strength with us.
