What is Interoceptive Awareness - it is awareness of our inner body sensations!

Such as feeling our hunger/fullness, thirst, needing the bathroom and including our emotional state etc..

It's the ability to identify, access, understand and respond appropriately - which can often be difficult when someone is dieting... because we are usually all in our head vs in our body.

This is a little breakdown of the principles that I address in Path To Food Peace program with my clients to improve body connection and remove the obstacles that can interfere, so they can work towards having a healthier, more peaceful relationship with food, body and themselves.

Are you feeling challenged with body connection and listening/responding to your body right now? Let me know in the comments 👇

I've been reflecting on why posting on social media has been such a tricky and frustrating thing for me at times🤔

Sometimes it's about finding that balance in life - juggling all the things in life while still trying to show up regularly. Some weeks are better and easier than others - acceptance that I can't 'do it all', be switched on all the time.

As a recovering perfectionist, I notice that this pressure to have a 'perfect' feed and never make mistakes creeps in (more than I would like). Something I will continue to work on.

Then there is also the lack of nuance that social media offers.
I really do see and find so much value in the one on one session and the conversations that can be had and WHY this is included in my program.
Having said that, I do believe there can be value in social media and posting/ supportive education and I am finding my place with it all and to be honest will probably be a constant changing/evolving thing!

Anyway, I just wanted to share where my head is at currently.
You know social media can also be a place of all the 'highlights' when reality is we all have low days too. We are human. And have and feel a range of emotions!

I know this doesn't exactly relate to food and body but I do hope this goes as a reminder to always validate how you are feeling and it's not about getting it 'right' but how you show and give yourself compassion during these times

Much love 💕💕

So what happened after I quit MyFitnessPal 🤔

(save this post for later)

There was a lot of back and forth, confusion, uncertainty and fear. But I shifted my focus and reminded myself, over and over again that a restrictive dieting and allowing an app to dictate my consumption wasn't the answer (even though it felt safe)

I decided to turn inwards and question and explore my relationship with food. Challenging food rules, trying fear foods, going out and eating and so much more

This may sound easier said then done, but if you give yourself the time and space to work on your relationship with food. You'll really see a change in the way you speak, eat and feel about food

You don't have to wait till 2023, to start healing your relationship with food. You can start right now!

I've been helping women stop obsessing over & feeling out of control with food & make peace with their body. Through my Path To Food Peace Program ❤️

It's a 12 week 1:1 virtual coaching program, supporting you with customised tools and resources to help you shift your relationship with food and finally achieve FOOD FREEDOM

Emotional eating can be a response to an emotion or situation, not to satisfy hunger, using food as a coping mechanism

(save this post for later)

A common area I work with my clients on is emotional eating. Acknowledging that using food to cope with emotion is okay, is the first step on addressing the root cause 🌱

When working on healing your relationship with food, it is important to understand why you lean towards food as a way to deal with emotion

Unfortunately constantly resorting to food as a coping mechanism won't help in the long run. It can confuse your hunger cues as you might not be able to tell if it is actual physical hunger or emotional hunger 😵‍💫

With my clients we work on creating an emotional toolkit to lean on to when feeling drawn to emotional eating

What "pick me up" activities do you lean on when dealing with emotions? ↓

Holiday gatherings can sometimes be hard to navigate 🥴

Diet culture is so ingrained in our society and it can become a topic that gets brought up over the table as a way to bond

If you are working on healing your relationship with food, you may need to set some boundaries when it comes to talking about diet culture

It's okay to step away from certain conversations, change the topic and even not respond if you don't feel comfort

If you feel as though you need support navigating yourself through this period of time 🎄

If you find yourself finding clothing not fitting or not feeling as comfortable for your here & now body. I want to remind you that if the clothes don't fit, it's not that your body is wrong 🧐

It's simply not the size for you, & buying clothes that fit well & comfortably will feel more magical and empowering than having them too big or small 💃🏼

So after my experience with clothes not fitting, I thought sharing this would be helpful in case it's something you need to hear or have support with too 🤍

Tips of what to do if your clothes aren't fitting you:

→ Take it off 🙅🏼‍♀️ wear something that makes you feel good!
→ Put comfy clothes on that do fit
→ Store or remove clothes to revisit later
→ Donate clothes
→ Focus on keeping what fits & what's comfy
→ Get new clothes 🛍

If you want to improve your body image & relationship with food so you can start feeling better in your skin, find food freedom & body peace

Tracking calories & portion control

Yes this may work for some people, but with a lot of my clients this is a very common area we work on together

After tracking and control of the food you consume, do you find yourself regularly overeating or bingeing?

Here is a new approach to consider then, to shift feeling this way about food & eating:

➔ Consistency
➔ Variety
➔ Adequacy
➔ Balance

Our eating experience is SO SO MUCH MORE than calorie intake

And it’s not more low calorie food, more control or willpower you need 👊🏼

I’m supporting women to empower them to overcome these food fears & build a health relationship with their bodies & food 🤍

I used to look in the mirror and absolutely hate what I saw 🪞

It was always an instant reaction to turn against myself through food restriction, over exercising, self harm, and negative self talk

I still have days that I don’t like what I see in the mirror or how I feel in and about my body

But what has changed is that I now respond instead of react

We can find ourselves reacting without even realising and without any awareness about what we’re actually doing 🧐

You are able to respond when you start to build awareness around your reactions

The next time you find yourself doing this, I invite you to use these questions to reflect and journal on, ask yourself:

How am I reacting to these feelings about my body?

Are these reactions turning against myself? Are they serving me and in alignment with the body image I want to have?

How can I respond to these feelings in a loving way?

A great place to start, is responding with kindness and respect. Showing yourself respect is a big one!! You don’t have to love the way your body looks to respect it and be kind to it 🤍
