Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve spanned the Indian Ocean delivering mental health training for Lifeline WA.

Last week took us to Christmas Island, where we ran a series of sessions for Phosphate Resources Limited staff and the wider community. Topics included mental health awareness, self-care, supporting yourself and others, and talking about su***de.

This week, we travelled south to Bunbury and Busselton, where Engel joined fellow trainers Penny Jakovcevich and Rebecca Hannan. They delivered several Lifeline WA programs — sponsored by Rio Tinto — including a fully booked "Managing Challenging Interactions" workshop.

It’s inspiring to see organisations investing in mental health training — not just for their employees, but for the broader community.

Thanks to everyone who participated and helped make these sessions meaningful and impactful.

Have you finalised your corporate mental health training program for 2025/26?

With legislative requirements in place to address psychosocial hazards in the workplace as well as physical hazards, protecting the health of your team is essential.

Psychosocial hazards are things at work that can harm mental health. They can come from how work is set up or managed, the work environment, the tools used, or how people behave at work. It's important for businesses to understand and manage these risks to support a healthy and safe workplace for everyone.

At Mental Strides, we provide a wide range of mental health training from two-day Mental Health First Aid courses, to one-day courses and workshops tailored to more specific industries or issues.

Contact our mental health consultant, Engel Prendergast, on 0451 945 545 or email engel@mentalstrides.com.au to learn more about how mental health training can support your organisation.

| Training in India with TrainSmart |

Mental Strides has been working with TrainSmart in India on a project aimed at incorporating more vocational training into the education system.

As part of this work, Engel recently visited the Shivalik Hills Public School in Raghwal Punjab, a local school looking to work with TrainSmart to establish a vocational education and training centre on site.

Staff and teachers were provided with an insight into the TrainSmart project, what’s required and how it can be implemented at the school.

They were also interested to hear more about the holistic health for rural communities project that Mental Strides runs with Mental Health Academy India, and we’re excited to be heading back to the school in August to deliver this training to teachers.

Many thanks to Ajit Singh and Nashetta Randhawa for their wonderful and warm hospitality.

For those who know our mental health consultant, Engel, and her passion for India, you'll understand what a special opportunity it was for her to participate in MHAI’s Human Book series.

In her story, "My Two Homes," Engel spoke about her deep love for India and her work there as part of Mental Strides, highlighting the incredible mental health initiatives we're supporting through our collaboration with Mental Health Academy India.

What an experience for the Mental Strides team this week at Safety 2024, the 15th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion, held at The Taj Palace in New Delhi.

As part of the conference, we had the opportunity to showcase our holistic health training for rural communities in India (our collaboration with Mental Health Academy India).

The project’s tailored, localised and community-led approach was a definite talking point for delegates who stopped for a chat.

We were able to demonstrate how motivated organisations can work together to combine existing public health research with practical knowledge and on the ground experience to implement projects which benefit local communities.

Thank you to the team at Investing In Our Youth in Collie for welcoming us as we delivered tailored training for them last week.

In response to an identified need, we worked with management to tailor a workshop focused on developing and maintaining boundaries when supporting others.

As an added bonus, we also got to take in the beautiful winter morning sunrise on the way to Collie - one of the many reasons we love regional training delivery.

When it comes to mental health training, a flexible, tailored approach to course delivery is important.

We know locking away two full days for training is not always an option, but spreading training over a few sessions might work perfectly.

For the Ethnic Communities Council of WA, we worked with Lifeline WA to deliver a series workshops across four Thursday evenings during June.

Each session was tailored to the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) communities, focusing on navigating difficult situations such as mental health, su***de, and sexual harassment. Participants also learned how to support themselves and others in these areas.

The use of role-playing, scenarios, mini-group discussions and sharing experiences helped reinforce workshop learnings.

Thank you to everyone who joined us across the four weeks - we know from your feedback that you found the training extremely valuable and that always makes our day.

If you would like mental health training tailored for your organisation or group, contact Engel, our Mental Health Consultant, on +61 451 945 545 or email engel@mentalstrides.com.au.

It’s was wonderful to be back with the team at Injury Matters yesterday, delivering our tailored Mental Health Awareness and Caller Training.

Working in roles that support others socially, emotionally, mentally or financially can impact your own mental health.

It’s very easy to forget your own self care and wellbeing strategies when you spend every day helping others.

Whether you work in insurance, financial counselling, grief and trauma support, or allied health, it’s important to have the skills, knowledge and processes to support your clients and yourself.

Find out more about our mental health training at www.mentalstrides.com.au.

We were lucky to have Engel from Mental Strides with us yesterday to deliver an engaging, informative and valuable training for our team. Thank you Engel!

We’ve spent the past two days at Landsdale Farm with the team from Strive Community Services Inc. where we delivered a Mental Health First Aid course for Lifeline WA.

Strive helps transform the lives of people with disabilities, providing access to a wide range of disability support services including social activities, skill programs, respite, supported accommodation and supported independent living.

The knowledge and skills gained through the mental health first aid course will help Strive’s staff recognise when clients or colleagues may need support with their mental health and know how to assist them.

If you work for a not-for-profit or community-focused organisation and would like to provide your team with tailored mental health training, email us at info@mentalstrides.com.au or call Engel on 0451 945 545. We’d love to help.

Exciting news for the Mental Strides team - we’re off to the 15th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion which will be held in Delhi later this year.

In partnership with our friends at Mental Health Academy India, we’ll be showcasing our Holistic Health training program to delegates from across the world.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to share how train the trainer programs help empower communities, build capacity at a local level, and provide sustainable resources to improve mental and physical health.
