How GOOD is that feeling of turning a “one day” task or dream into a reality?!

When studying to be a dietitian I knew I wanted to do more than just help people with their diet.
I wanted to help people change their lifestyle. Improve how they feel about themselves. Repair their relationship with food and their body. Find a new lease on life without the crippling burden a poor relationship with food and body can have. Create a platform for people to push further with their goals beyond the way that they eat.

Almost 10 years on and I still pinch myself that I get to do just that 😬🥰

At the weekend I attended the cafe opening of a beautiful client (turned friend). I sat back like a proud mum reflecting on how far this incredible human has come since we started working together. HUGE success ✨

Another reminder that food is more than just food, and repairing your relationship with yourself through your relationship with food and body can help you unlock so much more than you may realise 🔑💫

Also- do yourself a favour and go checkout .wa ☕️😍

Not sure how it got to September before I did my first post of the year but hey, first day of pre season as it starts getting crazy again seems like a good time to post 😅. What a ride this year has been so far! Getting through my first season in my new role as the AFLW Dietitian and Player Development Manager for West Coast was a roller coaster that’s for sure, but it was everything I had hoped for and more 🥰. Juggling that, my practice and now tutoring at Notre Dame Uni has been pretty intense but I wouldn’t change it for anything 🏉🍽👩🏽‍🏫. Bring on the rest of the year and the 2022 season😍!!

Helloooo World Champ 😍.
Can’t think of anyone more deserving than you Victoria Sullivan. This one is up there with one of my proudest moments as a Sports Dietitian.
Ready to do it all over again 👊🏼

Well, what a year.
A year so uncomfortable, so scary, so full of uncertainty that it forced growth and change, as well as bonded so many as we went through the experience together 🌻

Reflecting on where I was towards the start of the year to now is a pretty powerful feeling. It was the fear of the health and safety of others (yes, this still very much remains), the fear of being out of work, the forced adaptation to new avenues of delivering client support (hello Telehealth and online consults 😍) and many mental and emotional breakdowns that resulted.
I had to tackle a lot of things head on and came out of it learning so much more about myself, forgiving and accepting what was and allowing myself to be open to new opportunities, be open to becoming myself again 🤍. I (like many) learned the importance of slowing down and was reminded of how powerful self care is (pic evidence of me on one of my many day trips resetting throughout the journey and learning to stop and smell the roses, well canola fields😅).

Despite the year that was I am incredibly grateful and still blown away by some of the opportunities that (with hard work) came my way 🙌🏼. I landed a full time gig at as the AFLW Player Development Manager allowing me to explore and work in my passion for mental health and well-being🥰. I also hired my first AMAZING dietitian (she really is) to join my practice and I’m so excited to keep watching my little business grow ☺️.

I look forward to using what I have learned throughout this journey to help others push past personal and lifestyle barriers to achieve their goals.✨

Although difficult at times, as people begin to reflect on the year that was it is important to not compare your chapter in your journey to someone else’s, you are exactly where you need to be. Enjoy reflecting on your achievements of 2020-however big or small you may think them to be, be proud of them, especially knowing the main achievement of 2020 is that we got through it. Happy New Year everyone 🥳

Happy Dietitian’s Day 🎉
Wow, I am pretty proud to be one 🥰. Not only have I had the incredible opportunity to be a part of historic events like this (helllooo first win 😍), everyday I get to help people improve their health and lifestyle, help them to improve their relationship with food and their body, and help them to achieve their goals whatever that may be. The heartwarming feeling I get from that and the look of pride on their faces when they reach their goal is something I am so grateful for 💕.

I am so proud to be part of a community of Dietitians that continuously push boundaries to make a difference to the lives of others. So thank you to the Dietitians that inspire me and for the work that you do, and thank you to my clients for allowing me to do what I love everyday ☺️🌻

“Get comfortable with being uncomfortable”.

Fear, anxiety and discomfort are natural human reactions to growth and change as we have a tendency to resist the unknown.
✨Change your relationship with change and become comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Making a change to your relationship with food can be a source of this fear and discomfort. Moving away from a negative cycle of restriction and deprivation to a healthy relationship with food involving no rules can feel so foreign thanks to the diet culture we unfortunately have been living in 🙄😔. It is perfectly ok to feel this way. I have seen it with almost all of my clients (as well as experienced it myself) in the initial stages of the journey however, the incredible freedom (yes, freedom 😍) that comes with building a healthy and sustainable relationship with food makes it all worth while (TRUST me 🙌🏼).

Reframe the discomfort as a positive source of growth 💛. Hot tip? You don’t have to do it alone. Are you FINALLY ready to find that food freedom? Get in touch with me today and let’s start the journey together 💕

What could you ADD more of?? How about MORE veg 🤷🏽‍♀️. This is my goal at the moment because yes, even Dietitians need to focus on this sometimes too.
What should we try aim for? 🍽 1/2 plate veg with at least 3 colours🌈 (the variety in colour is a bonus of course).
Why? We want more of that high nutrient, high fibre goodness and antioxidant power💥
HOW can we do this? Try adding more veg to your usual dish similar to what I have done to my pasta dish (bonus points for the 3 different veg used here 😏). Here are some suggestions:
- 🥕add grated carrot and zucchini to your spaghetti bolognese
- 🥦Add some frozen or fresh veg or tinned lentils to curries and casseroles
- 🥫Make a veg packed soup for that hearty winter meal
- 🍅Cook up a veggie filled omelette or frittata with spinach, capsicum, tomato, mushrooms.

Bland or boring? No thanks 🤢- get creative and try adding herbs, spices, onion, garlic, olive oil, balsamic vinegar or vinegarette based dressings to add more flavour.
✨No need to over complicate adding more veg to your main meals, just keep it simple and think- what can I ADD more of🤔 @ Perth, Western Australia

Not feeling yourself lately and beating yourself up over it? The following client lesson below may help you 🙌🏼👇🏼:

These uncertain times have been bringing up a lot of varying emotions for people with many people feeling lost and out of routine (I know I have felt this way at times!). I had a client tell me that she had just been feeling so sluggish, turning to more comfort food than normal🍩🍫 and not exercising despite being active daily prior. She said that she felt like she was not herself and was really beating herself up about it😔. Then she reached a point where she felt like her body needed the nourishing foods it was getting before and that it needed to start moving again. She felt ready again 😍. She described feeling like she needed to feel that slump to reach a point where she wanted to change it up and get back to her usual habits. This was music to my ears ✨. Not because she “got over it” and “finally got back on track” but because the whole time she was doing what we had been working on for a while- “listening to our bodies”🥳. She went with what she was feeling (both the ups and the downs). These crazy times were bound to bring on new feelings and out of sorts behaviours so if you don’t have the motivation to do what you previously did then that’s ok- there is no need to be hard on yourself or have feelings of guilt 🙅🏽‍♀️. Give yourself permission to feel all that you feel and understand that those feelings will pass. Listen to your body and allow yourself to flow in and out of this stage too. These are skills that will continue to support you post crisis too. This can be a great time to build a healthier relationship with food 🥰. Hang in there, you’re doing the best you can 💕x

Pictured is my recent baked good obsession from 🤤 (zero guilt involved eating this as always!)

Did you hear the good news?! Dietitians can now do Medicare Telehealth 📱💻 which means you don’t have to put your health on hold during this chaotic and uncertain period 🙌🏼💕.
Through the EPC program all Medicare referrals (existing and new) will be bulk billed which means NO out of pocket expense for you 🙏🏼(hellloooo FREE sessions). So who’s eligible for an EPC referral? To be determined by your GP, if you have a chronic condition that you need support with eg. Weight loss/gain, diabetes, PCOS, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, food intolerances, IBS and eating disorders, you are eligible for the EPC program and Medicare covered sessions with an Accredited Practising Dietitian (like myself 🥰). If these have been concerns of yours or a point of stress for you and you want some extra support, there is no need to wait until “this all blows over”. You can get the support you need from the comfort and safety of your own home ✨. May as well walk to your local cafe and grab a take-away coffee (because ), head straight home and relax whilst you take in the help ☕️. Get in contact with me today to find out more or how I can help 😊
