As the air turns crisp and the leaves fall, Autumn in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the season of the Lungs & Large Intestine:
Breath, Release & Letting Go,
In TCM, the Lungs take in oxygen or Qi, while the Large Intestine releases waste—physically and emotionally. Sadness is the emotion that weakens the Lungs, leading to fatigue, low immunity, and dryness. When the Large Intestine is sluggish, we may struggle to let go, both physically and mentally.
According to Giovanni Maciocia, the Lungs are the most external organ, easily affected by wind, dryness, and emotions.
We strengthen Lungs & Immunity with herbs like Bai He (Lily Bulb), Xing Ren (Apricot Kernel), and Mai D**g (Ophiopogon) which moisten and protect.

Let go – Emotionally & physically.
