Derbarl has received a petition from some members of our organisation. As a community-led service, we respect the voices of our members and are managing this respectfully and in line with our Constitution.

There’s no change to how we operate. Our clinics and programs are running as usual, our team is here and we’re continuing to provide safe, trusted care to our mob across Perth.

Derbarl remains financially strong, culturally grounded, and fully committed to serving our community every day.

We wish to share some important changes to the Derbarl Yerrigan Board of Directors.

Our Chairperson, Thierra Clanton, and Deputy Chairperson, Katiska Davis, have resigned from their roles. We thank them both for their service, dedication, and leadership.

We’re pleased to announce:
Joslyn Eades-Tass is our new Chairperson
Nathan Riley is our new Deputy Chairperson
Rick Brooks has joined us as an Independent Director

We are proud to be a community-led organisation with strong governance and financial stability. We’re community focused and it's business as usual for our 22,000+ patients at Derbarl.

In Loving Memory - Uncle Greg Ugle
1954 - 2025

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Uncle Greg Ugle.
Uncle Greg was an Elder with a tireless attitude towards helping the families and people of the Nyoongar nation, ensuring protocol and cultural wisdom was upheld.

He has also contributed to maintaining cultural integrity, health and management across many sectors on a voluntary basis, including contributing his time as a Director of the Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service. Uncle Greg was a strong and passionate advocate for the health and wellness for our people.

On Tuesday Derbarl was delighted to welcome Senator for Western Australia Senator Jordon Steele-John to our East Perth Clinic. The Senator joined clinicians from our Paedatric, Elder Care, Social and Emotional Wellbeing and Dental teams, along with Chairperson Thierra Clanton, Member Director Joslyn Eades-Tass, Interim CEO James Christian and Acting Medical Director Dr Jeanita Wong in a Yarning Circle to discuss Derbarl’s programs.

After an Acknowledgement of Country from Elder Patrick Eagan, there was lively discussion about the success of Derbarl’s holistic health care model, and the areas of support required to sustain it. The teams provided further depth into key areas, including families' difficulties navigating mainstream health services and accessing culturally informed mental health support. The Senator is a strong advocate for Dental Services to be included in Medicare, and recognised the success of Derbarl’s model in integrating it into a primary health care service.

Dr Wong led a tour of the Clinic facilities, with discussion touching on Closing the Gap outcomes and challenges, and the importance of a culturally safe environment.

We very much appreciate Senator Steele-John's visit, and thank him for his time engaging with our team and listening to ways the Australian Government can support our delivery of care.

Congratulations to Dr Daniel Hunt for being awarded 2025's National NAIDOC's Person of the Year Award!

Dr Dan is a proud Jaru and Indjibarndi man, who dedicated many years to excellence in Aboriginal health at Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service, where he worked as a General Practitioner, Dentist and Acting CEO. Dr Dan's work during his time at Derbarl has been recognised with the 2022 General Practitioner in Training of the Year for WA Award and the 2024 Indigenous Doctor of the Year. Congratulations Dr Dan!
