🦷i had 4 wisdom teeth removed this week🚮
Not exactly a self-care retreat.

But as I lay there, getting ready to be knocked out i was calm. Shocked myself ti be honest. I found myself doing what I always tell others to do —
💭 Slow
💭 Count
💭 Hum

Nothing fancy.
Just a quiet rhythm in my head:
"In 2, 3, out 2, 3, 4."
A low hum as they worked.
A longer exhale when the fear crept in.

I used the breath for pain. For calm.
For not spiralling.

It reminded me, this isn’t just something I teach. It’s what I lean on when I need it most.

🚨 Still breathing through your mouth? Here’s why that’s silently wrecking your sleep, energy, and focus… 👇

If your nose always feels blocked, you might assume you have to mouth breathe.
But often, the root cause is hidden inflammation.

👉 Chronic oral issues like:

metal fillings or old dental work

inflamed root canals

jaw cavitations (FDOJ/NICO)

…can all trigger swelling in the sinuses and tissues of the mouth, making nasal breathing difficult.

Same goes for inflammatory foods like gluten or conventional dairy they can lead to tissue swelling, bleeding gums, and congested sinuses.

💥 The kicker?
Mouth breathing makes things worse:
– disrupts saliva flow
– dries your gums
– damages your oral microbiome
– keeps your nervous system stuck in stress mode

When you start breathing through your nose, everything changes.

📑 A 2023 Meta-Analysis by Fincham, Strauss, Montero-Marin & Cavanagh

Breathwork has exploded in popularity and now, the research is catching up.
This major review looked at dozens of studies and found that breathwork significantly reduced stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms compared to control groups.

🫁 Most studies used slow-paced breathing, shown to activate the parasympathetic nervous system and improve heart rate variability.
😮‍💨 A few explored faster breathing styles, suggesting they may act like a “microdose” of stress — training the body to recover more efficiently.

🔍 The researchers also highlighted breathwork’s impact on body awareness (interoception), a key part of emotional regulation.
