EARLY PERIODS
Recurring early periods are a nuisance and they are also bad for your health.
In Chinese medicine, recurrent early periods are caused by:

Qi deficiency – Think of a water pipe that has holes and water keeps seeping constantly .. not a lot, but a continuous drain

Heat in the Blood – This time the pipe is exposed to too much pressure (caused by Heat) and at some stage, it will just burst

=> You have to strengthen Qi or cool the Blood – often both
=> Herbs and Acupuncture for the win!! 😊

Cupping – Tool of the Gods
Cupping was already used as a medicinal tool in ancient Egypt as these two cups that are carved into stone in the temple of Kom Ombo in Aswan, Egypt, show.

The temple itself was built around 100BC and this section of it is all about medicine, medicinal tools, and – cups!

Now with hot summers, fizzy, sugary, and often, alcoholic drinks are more tempting than ever..

Be careful not to overdo it in neither the sugar nor the alcohol department. And don’t be taken in by the calorie numbers .. it is much easier to finish a bottle of red than a bottle of apple juice ..

If you would like to stay with juices and want to cut down on calories, mix your juice with sparkling water. It will still taste fresh and sweet, but you will cut down the calorie intake in half.

Also, a glass of cold peppermint/black tea – even with a spoon of sugar – will contain much less calories than any fizzy/fuzzy alternative.

Or go with something completely different, like buttermilk (101calories..)

New Beginnings .. make one Health Decision count

According to the Chinese calendar, last week started the Year of the Wood-Snake; The Snake is tenacious, intelligent, with keen insight, while Wood represents growth, expansion, flexibility.

It is also the end of the summer holidays with schools starting now. You will have more time to use that Snake drive to focus on those pesky (New Year’s) health targets πŸ˜‰
What will it be:
Less alcohol, the often-announced walk after dinner, that Saturday morning yoga class, a book instead of the mobile phone before sleep?
You decide, but .. MAKE IT COUNT ❀️

DID YOU KNOW THAT ..?

A bad posture while being on the computer/ mobile can increase the force on your neck to about 27kg?
No wonder that poor neck complains after a while ..
So, stretch, rotate your neck and shoulders, relax those muscles in regular intervals and, before it becomes a chronic issue .. regular acupuncture 😊

Star Anise – the perfect Winter herb

Star anise (or β€˜Ba Jiao Hui Xiang’ if you want to impress your friends 😊) is your perfect addition to foods during the cold Winter months. It disperses cold and warms the interior. It also moves the Qi (energy) in your digestive area, making it ideal for abdominal pain/colic, nausea or vomiting – especially if they are caused by Cold.
Good to know: Star anise is one of the β€˜five-spice powder’ ingredients.

.. Just Press That Point ..

Spleen 9 Point on the inside of your knee:
for all that is sluggish: Tired in the Morning? Sluggish Digestion? Foggy Head? Overweight?

The more sensitive the area is to pressure, the more you need to activate the point; keep massaging the area several times a day – you can do it while you watch TV, so no excuses .. 😊

Quick Fixes – Chinese Medicine on the Go

Constipation
If your bowels are being sluggish, try crunching on some fresh celery sticks. It might just do the trick 😊
Celery (Qin Cai in pinyin) is great for the digestive, reproductive, and cardiovascular system and contains anti-oxidants.

For the CM afficionados: Celery tonifies the Qi, cools Liver and Blood, clears Damp, promotes urination and calms the Mind

Chinese Medicine and Breastfeeding

Most expectant mothers devote a significant amount of time during pregnancy preparing for childbirth and organizing the home for the new baby. It is essential to also consider planning for the initial weeks post-delivery when mental energy is limited.
A common concern during this period is inadequate breastmilk supply, which can lead to considerable stress.

In Chinese medicine philosophy, breastmilk is associated with Yin and Blood, both vital fluids in the body. A deficiency in Yin often correlates with insufficient breastmilk production, with symptoms like hair loss also indicating this imbalance.
In China, new mothers are frequently provided with Blood and Yin-nourishing herbs after giving birth to support their overall health during the delicate postpartum phase.
Take advantage of the support Chinese medicine can lend you.
