🤔Ever wonder what our academics get up to while the students are on a Study Break?
Well, they are as busy as always but sometimes they like a change of scenery!

🏏The Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) has strong ties with the School of Allied Health and kindly hosted academics from Chiropractic, Counselling, Creative Arts Therapies and Exercise Science disciplines for they're Research Day.
🎓Activities and speakers centred around strategies for the collaboration and development of research amongst the School. It was an engaging and productive day spent at an iconic Perth landmark in iconic Perth weather!

🍕The Australian Chiropractors Association (ACA) and MoveIt! recently hosted a successful Beer and Pizza Night for students, creating a fun and relaxed environment to increase engagement, foster connections, and build community.

🤝The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to meet new people, network, and chat with professionals from our field.

We were grateful to have lecturers Dr. Losco and Dr. Daffin join us, along with three chiropractors—Dr. Nathan Bridger, Dr. Mike Brett, and Dr. David Lourie—who generously shared their insights and advice.

👏A special thank you goes to Joanne Servaas from the for organising this great event!

An exciting part of 5th year is being able to go on one rural placement!

A group of our current 5th year Students are currently up in Broome promoting all things Chiropractic💪🏼

We are super thrilled to announce that both Tully and Patrick were on the Goolarri Radio Station this morning speaking about the free Murdoch clinic provided up in Broome. The pair also spoke about their experience participating in the Men’s mental health awareness walk which was being run up in Broome!

Last week (SCA), represented by WA Chair Dr. Steve Lee, came onto campus to speak to students about the SCA, the upcoming symposium on the Gold Coast, the AICE titling pathway to becoming a Titled or Fellow Sports & Exercise Chiropractor, and what a career in sports chiropractic could mean for them.

It was a full house, and students enjoyed the talk on full stomachs thanks to the Student Association organising a buffet of pizzas to kick off the evening!

Graduation is a highly-anticipated event that brings with it excitement for the future, and often the bittersweet realisation of being together for the last time as a cohort.

We are immensely proud of each and every one of our Chiropractic graduates, and gladly welcome them into our profession knowing they will be valuable contributors to the community by providing excellence in health management, research and innovation.

IT'S GRADUATION WEEK!
🎓 This week we are ready to celebrate our graduating class of 2024 and farewell them officially as they attend Murdoch University for the last time.

Aside from the usual fancy graduation gowns, hoods and caps, you may also spot a range of different sashes and stoles which often celebrate a graduate's cultural heritage and individual accomplishments beyond just the degree itself.

Murdoch University prides itself on being a welcoming, diverse and inclusive community. These are our core values and an integral part to ngala kwop biddi (building a brighter future, together).
We celebrate our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates with a special Noongar designed graduation sash which pays tribute to the native flora and fauna found on the Murdoch campus.
The blue on the sash represents Djalgarro Beeliar (Canning River) and Derbari Yerrigan (Swan River), with the banksia, wattle and jarrah leaves replicating the bushlands of Noongar country. The Aboriginal symbols of people sitting depict everyone together sharing and learning in a yarning circle, while the dragonfly dances in the sky around them.
This sash is awarded to all Indigenous graduates to celebrate their success and demonstrate Murdoch University's appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

🎉 Well done to our 2024 Chiropractic graduates. We look forward to celebrating you this week!

MU News

💪 New research from Murdoch University’s Health Futures Institute shows that moderate-intensity exercise can significantly impact appetite control in males with obesity.

📉 The study found that even moderate exercise can help regulate appetite-related hormones, offering an immediate and beneficial effect on hunger control.

⚖️ Associate Professor Timothy Fairchild highlights that exercise is a key factor in weight management and overall health, challenging the belief that exercise increases hunger.

💡 The research also suggests exercise could be just as effective as weight loss drugs without the side effects, plus you get the added physical and mental health benefits!
