Peter Whitton - aka LG GOLDEN HEART AWARD WINNER 👏 👏

Peter has been a dedicated volunteer for five years at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). For the last two years, Peter has been volunteering as a path finder - to meet and greet people as they come in, find out where they need to go and helping them find their way - making their journey as simple and smooth as possible.

As a pathfinder, Peter meets the nurses, the parents, and of course, the children. I'm known at PCH as Peter - the old man in the blue shirt with the catch phrases "onwards and upwards," "on the front foot," "keep smiling!"

What does being a mean to you Peter?
"At the age of 85 it's such an uplifting feeling, it takes you to another level. I was involved in the concept of RMHC through a previous company and saw what they were doing for others and thought to myself, I have got to be a part of this" 🙌

Peter's most rewarding experience was when he was doing his "pathfinder role and a mother came in with her child dripping wet and quite frazzled. I immediately went over to help her find her way. She said I’m dripping wet, I couldn’t find a parking spot, I’m 30 minutes late to my son’s appointment and now I’ve just realised I’ve let my wallet at home and I need to pay for parking. I told her, don’t worry, let’s get you and your son to the appointment and I’ll pay for your parking. I got the mother a coffee, and helped to calm her down. Walked her and her son to their appointment and made sure that her whole day at PCH was at ease."

"My other one was meeting a boy in a wheelchair with his mother. I greeted him and gave him two high fives on each hand. Seeing the joy light up on the boy’s face, and then seeing the joy in his mother’s eyes seeing her son so happy made my day. It’s so worth it."

"If I can keep giving and volunteering as long as I'm here. I'll be a happy man."
