As we head into the Silly Season, where calendars fill, to-do lists grow, and emotions run high, our nervous systems often feel the pressure. The lead-up to Christmas can be equal parts magic and mayhem, which is why stimulating your vagus nerve is one of the best gifts you can give yourself.

The vagus nerve acts like your body’s internal calm switch: when it’s activated, your heart rate settles, your breath deepens, and your mind feels clearer and more grounded. During a season that can easily tip into overwhelm, this is your personal reset button.
Here are a few simple ways to stimulate your vagus nerve during the festive rush:

🎄 Slow, deep belly breathing
Diaphragmatic breaths signal safety to your body and shift you out of stress mode.

🎶 Humming, singing, or listening to soothing music
Those gentle vibrations help stimulate the vagus nerve and ease tension—yes, Christmas carols count.

🌿 Cold-water refresh
A splash of cool water on your face or a brief cold shower burst can quickly rebalance your nervous system.

🤝 Warm, supportive connection
The vagus nerve thrives on genuine social interaction. Choose presence over perfection and let meaningful moments anchor you.

✨ Intentional pauses
Even a few seconds of grounding—deep breaths before wrapping gifts or a moment outside between events—can make a huge difference.

This season isn’t just about getting through it—it’s about slowing down, softening the edges, and reconnecting with what matters. When you stimulate and support your vagus nerve, you support your whole self.

Here’s to a calmer, kinder lead-up to Christmas. 💛

In the 1950s, every kindergartener knew the ritual: crayons down, lights low, and the soft hum of a record spinning through the air.
Naptime wasn’t a break — it was part of learning.

Teachers dimmed the lights, tiptoed between mats, and whispered, “Close your eyes.”
Kids rested, dreamed, or just stared at sunbeams dancing on the ceiling — learning something we’ve since forgotten: that rest is part of growth.

Then came the tests.
The “readiness.”
The race to get ahead.
By the 1980s, naps were gone. The mats rolled up. The lights stayed on.

Today, five-year-olds spend more time in structured lessons than third-graders did in the 1950s — no pauses, no quiet, no chance to just be.
And we wonder why they’re anxious.

Maybe it’s time we remembered what our teachers once knew:
You don’t grow by running all the time.
You grow in the stillness too.
Even big kids need naptime sometimes.
