'When Iโ€™m not working, you can usually find me training Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which I have been doing for close to 10 years! Or hanging out with friends and family.ย 

My passion for Exercise Physiology grew from having to rehabilitate myself through a variety of different injuries that I had sustained through my martial arts training.

Because of this I am passionate about injury prehab and rehabilitation and I also have a keen interest in neurological conditions.'

Welcome Kate to Motion Physiotherapy!

Kate is an Exercise Physiologist who visits Cummins once a month.

Originally from Balaklava she moved to Port Lincoln in 2018 and "has absolutely fallen in love with the EP - the people, beaches and the casual lifestyle".

Exercise Physiologists are university qualified allied health professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for people with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities.

Exercise has some incredible benefits and is very important for everyone to do regularly. Kate understands that exercise can be overwhelming and that sometimes is is hard to know how to start or what to do. This is what she can help with. She can see you through a care plan from your GP, NDIS, DVA card or private health funding.

Kate also runs a group class here @ Motion Physio, which is a lot of fun and is aimed at those in the community who would benefit from some balance exercises, strength training and a laugh!

Kate has a huge passion for helping people maintain their strength and mobility to stay independent for as long as possible, as well as helping people manage their chronic conditions to improve their quality of life.

It's National Diabetes Week! I love this years theme and think it is so important we start to look and think about diabetes differently. Diabetes is very common, next time you meet someone with diabetes ask them how they are going, educate yourself on the condition and support them because nobody chooses diabetes.

At Pro-active health we run bulk-billed Type Two Diabetes classes across multiple sites on the EP and YP. Thank you to Copper Coast Sports and Leisure Centre 24fit Port Lincoln and Mortlock Clinic for allowing us to run these classes within your fantastic facilities ๐Ÿ™Œ

An important week in the calendar for Exercise Physiologists and this year's theme is a very powerful message โžก๏ธ EXERCISE FOR THE RIGHT REASONS!
As an EP this is an important conversation we will often have with you and we will also spend time educating you on the many benefits that exercise can have and how essential it is to find your reason to move and the type of exercise that suits you. Finding your reason to move helps motivate you to maintain a healthy level of physical activity.

Growing up I always loved playing sport to keep active, and Iโ€™ve always had an interest in health and fitness. Once I found out what an Exercise Physiologist was, I knew this was the career for me. Since completing my degree, I have fallen in love with the country lifestyle, so I decided to move to the Yorke Peninsula to begin my journey of helping others manage their chronic conditions through exercise.

Research has found that lifting weights for less than an hour a week could reduce your risk of a heart attack or stroke by 40 to 70 percent! This particular study found that weight training alone is enough to lower your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Thatโ€™s not to say that you should completely ditch aerobic physical activity after hearing this news. But, if your exercise routine leans heavily towards aerobic activities, then maybe you should try adding in something that's actually hefty: WEIGHTS. โ

The easiest place to work on resistance exercise is obviously the gym, where a variety of weight machines are easily accessible. However, lifting any weight that increases resistance on your muscles can be beneficial as your muscles donโ€™t know the difference between digging in the yard, carrying heavy shopping bags or lifting a dumbbell.โ
