Portland South Primary School - Designing and Creating Fruit a Kebabs 🍡🍓🍉🍌

Led by champion STEM teacher Ms. Arnott, each student at Portland South Primary School , designed and created their very own fruit kebab. No two designs were the same and fun fact, the average kebab had 11 pieces of cut fruit!

Smooth cantaloupe, tangy pineapple and plump blueberries, finished with a mango yoghurt dip.

As students shared their snacks, they discussed how our likes and dislikes can change and grow over time, just like we do. Tasting foods many times over, often results in a new-found love of a flavour or flavours combination.

Students commented;
“I tried kiwi fruit a long time ago and didn’t like it, but now I do”.
“I really enjoyed the new flavour combos like watermelon and strawberries together”.
"We could try freezing the fruit to make a fruity ice treat on a hot day".

The presentation of the fruit was also a highlight, with many students preferring fruit sticks over fruit in a bowl. A simple idea that children can recreate easily.

Thanks to Ms Arnott, and the students at Portland South Primary for their clever design skills in creating this fresh and tasty snack.

Portland South Primary School is supported by Vic Kids Eat Well and Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation

HAPPY HEALTHY FAMILIES THIS YEAR THEME FOR STORYTIME

United Way Glenelg is delighted to announce that this year's Magic of Storytime will take families on a magical journey into the world of storytelling and well-being, under the theme of "Happy Healthy Families."

Partnering with SEA Change Portland, United Way Glenelg has an exceptional lineup of guest readers for the Magic of Storytime series.

This collaborative effort not only aims to foster a love for reading but also to unite professionals under the shared spirit of promoting "Happy Healthy Families."

Nicole Carr, Executive Officer of United Way Glenelg, says The Magic of Storytime is more than just reading; it's about creating a space where families can come together, learn, and have fun.

“This year's theme reflects our commitment to the overall well-being of families”, she said.

“Each Magic of Storytime event promises book giveaways, entertaining activities, and ample opportunities for parents and caregivers to seek advice from professionals about cultivating happy and healthy family dynamics.”

Ms Carr encouraged families to stay connected on United Way Glenelg social media channels for updates and exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpses of the Magic of Storytime series.

The inaugural guest reader is Portland District Health Dietician Mara Tan, who will be reading the delightful and humorous book "I Will Never Eat a Tomato" by Lauren Child.

“There will be plenty of engaging activities, including the chance to create fresh fruit smoothies on the smoothie bike (calling on the big people to lend a hand!).”

More details about this event here>> https://fb.me/e/7cjyAWpc4

Magic of Storytime is a partnership between United Way Glenelg, Portland Aluminium, and Glenelg Libraries supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
