Meditation has been used for thousands of years, by many different cultures. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of ways to meditate, so if you have tried meditation before and haven't found it has worked, it is likely that you just haven't found the one that is right for you.

Meditation does not need to be complicated and you don't need to feel restricted by rules. You don’t need an app or to listen to a guided voice, you don’t need to sit a certain way. Your body already knows what to do. All you need are the tools.

If we look around us, at what is happening in the world, it can be really difficult to find hope. For many of us, particularly those of us in lockdown, it can feel like our circumstances are very much determined by outside influences and we have very little control over our lives.

The truth is however, that there will always be circumstances that can steal our hope. Right now, those circumstances are similar for many of us, but really, if the pandemic was not here, it is likely that different circumstances would rob us of our hope. Lack of time, lack of money, lack of other resources. The reality is, there will always be something, that if we allow it, will steal our hope. Circumstances will always get in the way of what we hope for.

The way forward is to rise above our circumstances. To acknowledge that they exist, and then choose to move forward regardless. There is always a way. It might not be apparent to you right now, but there is always another way.

Do you find yourself needing to control? Needing to know that everything is going to turn out? Feeling uncomfortable when you don't know how things are going to unfold?

It's a natural instinct for us to want to control outcomes in our lives. To want to know how things are going to turn out and to feel like we have some influence over the outcome.

It's easy to drift into hopelessness when we lose our sense of control. And right now, if we consider what is happening around the world, it's easy to think that we have no power over what is happening.

Yet, there are so many things that are in our hands. There's so much that we do have control over. Each day, we make thousands of decisions, many of which we are totally unaware of, but each of which influences our experience. The more aware we are of the choices that are available to us, the more we see how much power we actually do yield over our lives.

Knowing that power gives us hope.

How different would your life be if you looked at problems and circumstances in this way? Acknowledging your current reality as it is. Without judgement.

This certainly doesn't mean you have to like what is. It doesn't mean that you can't hope for something different.

Acknowledging our current reality without judgement helps us to stop focusing on it. We're not as likely to get stuck thinking about why something is good or bad or right or wrong.

This gives us the energy to focus on what we do hope for and to take action towards it. What we focus on grows.

So keep your focus on what you hope for 👁️
