A bit of an unrelated to work post from me today…
For the newbies to my page: welcome and thanks for being here! To give you a little backstory, burnout hit me for six last year. Honestly, I’m still recovering and trying to find my groove to prevent it from happening again. For me, the recovery process is akin to walking a tightrope.
I’ve always been an "all work, no play" kind of gal. Somewhere between work and family life, I lost touch with other parts of myself along the way. I love my family and my career, but lately, I’ve felt as though I’ve forgotten how to enjoy the little things that once brought me joy. Now, I’m intentionally making time to find ways to "fill my cup."
👩🏻🍳Cooking used to be my sanctuary. For years, I made everything from scratch, but due to competing demands and limited time, I’ve drifted into a routine of quick and easy meals.
Yesterday, I decided to get back into the kitchen and make a lemon tart. Creating delectable, delightful deliciousness and sharing it with those you love, what’s not to love?
Well, after two failed pastry attempts, one mini-meltdown, and a lot of sheer determination, the third time was the charm! I finally got (almost) perfect pastry. Woop! 🙌
However, after a series of comical errors and a mountain of dishes, I found myself wondering how I ever found joy in this hobby! This time around, it felt chaotic and a little stressful.
The lunch today? Delicious.
The process? Utter chaos.
But I guess that’s all part of finding my groove again, learning to slow down, making space for things outside of work, and realising I can't expect everything to be perfect straight away.
I’m curious… how do you fill your cup? What hobbies or little things bring you joy?
