When the Victorian Government announced in January 2022 that IVF procedures would be “paused” for 3 months, knew that something had to be done to reverse this decision. Three months is a long time for anyone, but for those going through IVF, it can mean the difference between having the opportunity to hold a baby in your arms …or …well, she didn’t want to think of the alternative.
Not knowing where to turn or what to do exactly, Melanie headed to the one place she feared the most…social media. Melanie posted a video imploring the Government to reconsider their decision– a video which in a matter of days would go viral, garnering over 1.8 million views. Melanie went from having only five people in her life knowing that she was going through IVF, to having everyone know. It was all worth it though – less than a week after announcing the “pause” on IVF, the
Victorian Government reversed their decision.
Although using social media still gives Melanie the heebie geebies, she will be forever grateful to those who supported her video and gave herself and so many others like her, the opportunity to go and get their babies!
