What is involved in Ear Candling or Thermal Auricular Therapy:
This, long forgotten ancient practice is slowly loosing its identity. I have been practicing EC since 2012 and have done many treatments. Some with amazing results and for some itβs a relaxing and nurturing experience.
There are many common beliefs around ear candling. I have listed them below with my own experience:
1. Ear candling burns the ear - you play with fire, you get burnt, how often have you hear this! Like anything, you need to practice caution.
- Avoid doing ear candling alone as it is very relaxing and you may fall asleep and yes, there is a danger of you setting your hair on fire π₯π
- Avoid using cheap and inferior ear candles which donβt have the safety filter and assurance from the makers
- Always have a bowl of water handy when candling. In case of fire you have it there and also to put out the candles after the treatment.
2. Ear candling can cause perforated ear - when putting objects in your ear, you have to proactive caution.Do not insert the candle dangerously far into the ear canal. Best to go to a professional.
3. Can cause ear blockage - to avoid this, use candles made by reputable brand. Ensure the candles have proper filter attached and not just a ball of cotton or sponge as filter.
4. Ear candling extracts the wax from inside of ear - we would love to see this happen but NO, the ear candling DOES NOT pull the wax out of the ear. It will loosen it and will eventually come out.
So what does Ear Candling do?
Keep an π out for my next post π
