I recently processed this placenta. When I opened the container it was in, I felt like it was Christmas morning! I got to see and explore a relatively rare placenta that I haven’t done before 🤩
I have added some information about it, the complications, and some thoughts about outside stress put on us throughout our pregnancies.

While this is entirely Clickbait, this kind of material is what pushes people into being terrified of birth, or misunderstanding how things work. These type of situations happen all of the time - miscommunication, not understanding, different expectations etc. If you want to have a birth where you are fully aware of what is going on and it doesn’t result in misunderstanding of the situation, send me a message and let’s get started.

Below are some points that immediately stood out to me.

👉 Forced to deliver his own baby - HE GOT THE PRIVILEGE OF CATCHING HIS OWN BABY. By the way, the only person who delivers a baby is the birth mother. No one else delivers a baby… They catch her/him.
👉 cord around the neck - THIS IS A VARIATION OF NORMAL, MOST OF THE TIME. IT IS COMPLETELY SAFE. JUST UNWRAP IT… SIMPLE.
👉 midwife leaving the space - if she doesn’t know that a baby’s heart rate decelerates after a contraction, it sounds like you were better off that she wasn’t there.
👉 baby was born safe - OH NO, WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED, A MOTHER COULD BIRTH HER OWN CHILD AND EVERYTHING WOULD BE FINE. WHAT A TRAGEDY.

In this little story that the news website chose to share (there was more when you click into it, but most people don’t so this is what they are projecting into the world), they are describing their midwife as the bad guy. Who actually knows what happened here. The midwife could have simply been following procedure. Sure communication should have been better, but this poor woman is now shunned for probably just doing her job.

Also in my ramblings, I want to mention that these parents’ trauma from this experience is completely valid. 1/3 of women experience obstetric trauma in Australia, and most of those experiences depend upon how they were treated, not what actually happened. So the way these parents perceived their fourth child’s birth, was not the way they expected or wanted, and that is extremely unfortunate.

I processed this placenta after a birth I attended. At this point I hadn’t slept for 36 hours, and later looked back at the photos and realised I had taken the picture of the sac on the ‘wrong side’ of the placenta 😅 I like to take the photos so you can see what the baby was inside of, but this image here shows the maternal side of the placenta with the sac ‘inside out’. Oops. Sleep deprivation 🙈❤️

The first home you had, and the last thing to show.

Oxytocin hums and leads the way.
Endorphins soften wave and time,
Turning pain to rhythm, deep and prime.

At journey’s edge, adrenaline roars,
Then prolactin blooms as baby pours.
A love ignites, ancient and true,
The body knows just what to do.
