Today’s reflection.

As a female founder.
As a plastic surgeon.
As a working mum.

International Women’s Day always makes me reflect on what leadership truly means.

For me, it hasn’t been about titles or recognition. It has been about resilience. About showing up — in theatre, in clinic, in meetings, at school drop-offs — even when exhausted. It has been about building something meaningful while raising children who are watching everything I do.

There is a quiet strength in women.
We carry families.
We carry patients.
We carry businesses.
And often, we carry it all at once (and selflessly).

This year’s theme, , resonates deeply.

Every time I have given — to my patients, to my team, to my children, to the vision of building Vardyn — I have gained something far greater in return. Perspective. Growth. Purpose.

Massive weight loss can leave excess skin that no amount of further exercise, dieting and skin tightening treatments can fix.

My patient underwent excess skin removal in the form of a 360 degree circumferential body lift, bilateral mastopexy (breast lift) and brachioplasty (arm reduction).

I use to be afraid of failure. I use to be scared of disappointing everyone I cared about. I use to doubt myself and second guess my decisions so I couldn’t make decisions at all. I use to worry what others would think. The former me use to live in fear and that held me back from doing so much because I always wanted to play it safe and stay in my comfort zone. And we all know that nothing grows in comfort zones. It wasn’t until I was forced to make hard decisions, face my fears, speak my truth, take risks that I truly began to take charge of my destiny... to the point now that every challenge or hardship or obstacle is an opportunity to combine creativity, courage and commitment for personal and professional success and satisfaction. And when you’ve found yourself isolated after years of study and hard work and without a job or prospects or colleagues and had your kindness, trust, money and naivety taken advantage of time and time again and been bullied, I could have chosen to remain defeated or walk away. But I chose to keep going, go bigger and better and give it everything I had with determination, courage, passion and purpose - to make a difference, change lives, empower others and inspire my children to believe that anything is possible
