The completion of the Karratha Step Up/Step Down (SUSD) facility was announced yesterday by the state government.

The service, operated by Richmind WA in partnership with Hope Community Services, will provide access to individual units for people experiencing mental health challenges, with clinical services provided by WA Country Health Service.

The step-up model aims to help people by avoiding hospitalisation, and step-down aims to help those transitioning back into the community after a hospital stay.

The facility contains six units, offering short-term residential support for up to six people at a time.

It is the seventh SUSD facility in the state, and the first north of the 26th parallel.

SUSD facilities are also being progressed in South Hedland and Broome.
