The second most important principle for body composition and health is macronutrient ratios. These macronutrients are protein, carbohydrate and fat.

Protein has the largest impact on body composition and performance because it makes up a huge percentage of skeletal muscle as well as connective tissues such as tendons, ligaments and bones.

The most important principle of any diet is Calorie balance. In short, the calories you consume must be less than the calories you burn in order to lose weight. That's why people can see results with different types of diets (high protein/ low carb, fasting certain meals etc) however, all will involve a calorie deficit in order to lose weight :)
