An absolutely fantastic $20 pasta deal Thursday nights at Casablabla on Leigh Street. Choices of seafood, ragu and vegetarian. When it comes to my standout favourite, the seafood, the type and variety of ingredients varies based on availability. In this case I was lucky enough to get prawns, squid and fish.

While it may not be everyone's preference for a breakfast I savoured every delicious mouthful of this spring onion pancake with crab at Si Sea in the Adelaide Central Market.

$19 Kransky dog, chips and pint of Calsberg available as standard at the Southwark Hotel in Thebarton. A beautifully fat, juicy kransky with plenty of onion and mustard. Not to mention fantastic, welcoming owners and staff. Like a country pub right by the city.

$15 breakfast roll and small coffee at District B 5165, Christies Beach. Everything in the roll was perfect. A lot of very crispy bacon, fried egg plus a spicy relish that beautifully complemented and never overpowered the other flavours.

My absolute favourite bánh mì in Adelaide at
Bánh Mì Thit in Croydon Park. When I first returned home from Vietnam over twenty years ago these things were really quite hard to find. But those that were around had not experienced any of the dilution of traditional flavours that is common these days. As far as your taste buds are concerned when you eat here you could just as easily be in central Saigon.

An absolute 'must do' monthly pierogi lunch at the Dom Polski Centre. These incredibly delicious parcels of flavour are the real deal; made by a member of the local Polish community. Three flavours on offer. Meat, potato & cheese and sauerkraut & mushroom. You can go with just one type or a combination of two or three. They all come with a generous sprinkling of crispy bacon pieces and chives. The sauerkraut pierogi were good with strong flavours but it was the other two that really stood out. $25 for 10, $12.50 for 5. Salad and sour cream included. And a huge choice of Polish beer on offer plus a couple of desserts.
